PKR Worst than first<

I am brainwashed to limp since I have been limping for the last 2+ years.
I know exactly what you are talking about there. I find myself falling back into that same habit. My knee isn't painful to walk, I just end up doing that old limping thing again. It is an unlearned thing we have to do!

**Update at 10 weeks 4 days Post OP **

PAIN PAIN PAIN in the quad tendon, right above the knee cap. Painful to bend but WORSE when straightening the leg while sleeping! This has been consistent for the last 3-4 weeks.. I still ice, elevate, and stopped strengthening at therapy (per outpatient PT rules)... no exercise walking, just plain daily living. It' still a little swollen. The patellar tendon hurts the same but more during the day. It feels as if there is a vice grip attached to my knee and its no longer wanting to bend. I have no idea whats going on.. inflammation (Dicoflenac) doesn't seem to help at all.. painkillers didn't even block the pain. Im clueless. Im also waiting on a recommendation from the DOC. The only thing I can think of is a tendon strain or small tear... (sigh) -- Right Knee is 8.5 months and still have pain with the IT band next to the knee cap... I don't feel like I am winning here...

**update** evening

just been prescribed a steroid pack and Ativan.

I am in a similar place to you. I have less function and more pain than knee #1. I guess they are all different. My surgeon says that the implant is great and that difference in pain is just soft tissue healing. My surgeon doesn’t track pain after 2 months and my internist put me on Gabupentin . That has helped. I continue to walk and do PT at the gym every other day. The days of my gym workouts, I have difficulty sleeping due to pain. I don’t know if I am doing the right thing. I ice a lot and an still taking Tramdol. Life was better with oxycodone, but that’s no longer available to me. When walking, I focus on form. In the gym, I do light weights and focus on form. Here’s hoping we are both well soon.

IT's OK to use heat on your quads, so have you tried something like a wheat bag? Just be sure to keep the heat source away from your knee itself.

I'm afraid that tight feeling is quite common. It will decrease as time passes, but sometimes it takes a long time.
"Tight band" feeling across the front of my knee

Thanks .. have been icing the quad tendon as it’s still swollen. There is one very particular place on the kneecap edge to the tendon, that if I barely touch it with my fingertip, it’s quite painful. Everywhere else is just sore.... which I expect...makes me suspicious..something is going on in there .. it’s my second round and doesn’t feel like the “normal healing” feeling ..

I have also been told that both knees worked on will be different.. a different experience.. recovery, etc.. truth has been seen. I am trying to work on my gait as I’ve limped for so long that now, the balls of my feet are suffering .. I walk on the balls of my feet! Ugh! I cannot even explain why..I workout in the gym but for leg day, keep it very therapeutic.. all other days, normal upper body training. Good luck to you as well in your recovery.

How will Ativan help me? Has anyone else taken it “to help sleep”? Doc is concerned I don’t sleep well with so much quad tendon pain, which is true.. but I’m not 100% on the Ativan as I’ve not taken such a thing before... rather not google it either.. would like to hear of some real life experiences.. thank you

Has your doctor recommended or prescribed Ativan?
It can help to relieve stress and anxiety, which might help you sleep better.

As long as you only take it short-term, it could help. It's not a good idea to take it long-term for sleep problems.
If you have reservations about taking Ativan, you need to discuss them with your doctor.

Hello Celle...

Yes the Doc did prescribe Ativan. I did try one last night.. it was kind of weird.. i don't think i felt the quad tendon pain as bad as the previous nights but then again, I also started the Steroid pack early yesterday afternoon..so not sure if its that, that is reducing the pain or the Ativan..

I am not a big advocate for drugs, so I won't be on this long.. maybe no more than a couple nights..

thank you..

I took it once or twice a week during my recovery. It really helps to get that much needed sleep.

I think it takes loner than that for Ativan to take effect. You need to take it for several days before feeling any benefit, so just the occasional dose won't help. That doesn't mean I'm advocating taking it long-term, just long enough to get you through this rough patch..
