Where Is Your Hip Pain?

Yes I also have pain in my lower back and buttocks I can't straigthen up , stand for more than about 5mins or walk more than 100yrds, I have the cracking noise in my hips, mainly the right one and in the mornings so stiff I struggle to walk to the bathroom , getting up from chairs or exiting the car the worst experience

Pain area---groin, underwear line around the whole hip, SI joint, thigh, knee, deep inside the buttock, calf. Also recently pain in the other hip. Getting x rays done friday that will help me figure out if the pain in the "good" hip is referred or if something is going on over there.
 
Sounds very typical of advanced arthritic pain to me, Limpy.
 
Let's see if I can get this whole mess updated. I felt so good after the chiropractor that I cancelled my appt. at the OS office. Stupid mistake. The chiropractor said he thought two things were going on. One was my SI joint, the other my hip. He fixed that SI joint in nothing flat. He wanted me to call my OS about my hip, but I put it off because I was waiting for a miracle. By the time this last Friday rolled around I was ready to break down. I called my PCP (a ARNP) who saw me after school. I'm a teacher. She did xrays and saw arthritis in both hips. Oddly, it is worse in the hip that doesn't hurt. Anyway, she poked around to see if it was bursitis, but poking didn't bother me at all. She could have given me a cortisone injection for that. She said I would need to go back to the clinic where the OS is for an injection into the joint. Today she was able to get the OS to approve a cortisone injection. I love that woman. The office of the OS called after school and said the people that give the injection would be calling me. So that's where things stand. Oh, she also gave me a prescription for oxycodone. I did have a little pity party on Saturday, and felt much better afterwards. It was short and sweet. I did nothing all weekend. I have no idea how I can get my knee fixed if the cortisone doesn't work in my hip which is on the left. The bad knee is on the right. I'm pooped, so please excuse any typos.
 
I have an appt. for a hip injection on March 30th with a physiatrist. I don't really know what one is. I asked a few people if they had heard of the guy, and they said he was very . . . unpleasant. I hope he does a good job.
 
My hip pain at this point pretty much is in my right hip,groin,buttock,calf,down my right leg and around the back , it keeps me awake at night im now reduced to limping ALL THE TIME now , i had a bottle of percosete on monday and theyre all gone and im disgusted with myself because clearly i didnt use them as prescribed but honestly it took away the pain to the point i was numb ...anyway you asked me where is your pain,, its essentially all over my right leg thank god in the great blue sky i dont have to wait long now, my surgery is in about 3 weeks or so - April 10th otherwise i dont know how much longer i could take this its killing me and im reduced to lying on the couch with a pillow between my legs to find some form of comfort, but you know what they say - it is what it is, im pretty much disgusted with this entire process im 43 yrs old and in need of a hip replacement , hows my life, how sad.

I'm newly diagnosed and having right hip surgery the end of April. For quite a while, my pain was actually worse in my right knee than in my hip, or so it felt. I had a lot of pulling under my knee cap and along my thigh. The doc explained this is a secondary complication due to my hip issue. I do have stabbing pains in my groin around my underwear line (ouch!) depending upon how I move, but my diminished range of motion has completely eliminated some of the positions which previously caused this pain. It's kind of odd to me that I can have progressed to this level of disability without more excrutiating pain in my hip.

Of course, I was so clueless that when questioned about hip pain by my physical therapist, I told him it didn't hurt because I thought hip pain would be on the outside of my thigh at the location I thought of as my hip. I had no idea he also meant my groin. D'uh!

My knee still hurts; my back is sometimes sore; my very lower back, including my right dimple, is uncomfortable and clicks (I'm guessing due to the shift in my pelvis); and my groin and thigh ache with some stabbing pains thrown in there. I have problems sleeping due to discomfort a couple nights per week. Sitting is typically fine; standing or walking are the worst. The exhaustion is really crappy to deal with, too. My whole body is often exhausted from the least exertion, especially just a little bit of standing or walking. Maybe this is typical: I have to use a cane and I look like a duck with a broom handle jammed up its *ss 'cause I waddle side-to-side and my right hip/leg is quite wooden-stiff. I have a bit of a Frankenstein thing going...LOL! :th_heehee:
 
I just had an injection in my left hip. I was so nervous that I didn't ask what they injected me with! Anyway, the doctor went into the joint from the front, and honestly it wasn't that bad. They said the needle was just like the kind they use for flu shots.He told me it might work for 2 weeks or a few months. My question is, when do you think I might feel some relief? He said my other hip was in much worse shape. This hip is the one that is really painful though. I'm hoping that it will feel better before my right TKR in May.
 
limpy7 I am afraid there are no guarantees with those injections. Everyone reacts differently to them. I had injections in my lower back for pain. The first one took about 10 days before I felt anything but the results lasted months. The second one didn't work at all.

I had same experiences with the injections only had three, each time was different. I do hope you will feel the benefits and soon too!

Last night after my injection I was feeling the same sort of pain, just milder. A few hours later I got up to do something and I had no pain at all. I climbed the stairs. No pain. I did it again, No pain. Today I got up and it is still great. I do still take my Celebrex. I am so hopeful that this will tide me through for my RTKR as I will need my left leg-and hip! Anyway, if there was any doubt that the source of pain was somewhere else, this would certainly rule it out. What a glorious feeling. Another thing I am thankful for is the doctor and nurse. I had heard he wasn't real pleasant. WRONG! He was the nicest man and his nurse was so sweet. They knew I was pretty nervous and went out of their way to make the experience a pleasant one.

Fantastic news, I am so pleased for you.. It is already 1 April where I live, so I can now say officially your surgery date is only one month away....
