TKR What I did on my summer vacation

@birdwatchr, being called a druggie is not cute. If he could be in our shoes and know how much we don't want to take pain meds, but to live a deceit life right now, we need them, he wouldn't 'tease' you. It's bad enough we are down on ourselves for having to take them, but when others make mention of it, it hurts that much more! I don't sleep either. Up and down every few hours every night. My sleep hasn't been good for quite a few years, but now it's awful. One day things will be normal again.

@Floridagal
Yeah. Had PT look at knee. She said it looks fine, but had no explanation for the blister type thing.
Unless your PT is also a nurse or MD, personally I wouldn't put much stock in her opinion.

I think this blister thing needs to be seen by your surgeon.

Do you still have the blister? Can you post a picture and ask Josephine to look at it if you haven't talked to your OS? I hope it's gone by now.

newlybionic, Celle, kneeper
Blister is healed over. Will watch for another one to pop up.

@sistersinhim
Yeah. I've told hubby several times to watch and read up on tkrs. He won't. Think he's scared to. Oh well.

Son is picking me up for church in a while. It'll be nice seeing them, and afterwards I can give granddaughter the things I've made her. Hope she likes them.

Got to go get ready.

@birdwatchr I saw your post on Pappas about not sleeping and going back to work...I also had problems sleeping prior to surgery, either my or my back

Now not only we have problems sleeping, we also have lack of energy, some swelling, stiffness, discomfort and/or pain...so we have added few more challenges to our work day...I didn't sleep much last night and I know it's because I am concerned about returning to work on August 1st.

I hope you enjoy church today. It is hard to have to think about returning to work. I had problems trying to sleep as the date got closer. I did get something from my doctor to help me sleep and started using it a week or so before hand to try to get my days and nights straightened out. Maybe you can talk to your PCP to get some help with that.

@newlybionic @uva55

I have noticed... I never sleep the night before going back to school after summer break! It drives me crazy! I'm expecting get it to be even harder this year. But I have learned some things from reading others' experiences, and have things to try. One thing I try to do is just stay in bed. I figure I am at least getting some rest. Sometimes I do have to get up, but staying in bed seems to help too.

No new updates to report. Have a call in to Dr for something to take for night pain. I knew they wouldn't respond yesterday, but hopefully today. PT will be once a week starting the 1st. Such wondrous joy to get to exercise at 6:30am! And on my first day back to work, too! In fact, got email yesterday that building is open this week and Saturday. Almost sent one back... uh, you won't be seeing me! Lol. Not anxious to be back, especially this year.
Glad I'm not in a classroom.

Don't think the 40 something days of 90 plus degree weather has helped either. I don't even want to go out to get the mail. Just staying cool and working on keeping lost surgery weight off!

Good to hear from you @birdwatchr. I use to queasy on the first day of teaching every year. Good for you if you can keep off the lost weight. I felt so sorry for myself that I overcompensated with comfort food and gained it all back plus a little more.

@Floridagal

I will probably eat more after the first couple of weeks of school, especially if new boss "gets on my nerves". Hopefully I won't though. I'm trying super hard to keep this 10 pounds off. I haven't been able to lose weight in so many years. Hate that it had to be surgery to jumpstart it, but as long as it has.....lol!

Yes, maam! That's the good thing about this surgery, weight loss!

Some people need to just keep their big mouths shut! No, not people here on bonesmart; people in this house! One person in particular.

@sistersinhim
Yep... trying to see the good out of this surgery!

Dr responded for me to take 800 MG ibuprofen or Tylenol pm. Told him I can't take ibuprofen due to blood pressure meds, and Tylenol hasn't been doing much. Finally heard back about a topical cream. I'll try it, but he hasn't responded. Guess it'll be tomorrow. Looks like they don't want me on prescription meds anymore. I suppose I can go one more night with pain.

I am so sorry you're having all these problems. You don't deserve it!

Sounds like "someone" needs a can of whoop butt opened on him. Ughh so sorry you have to deal with unsympathetic house members, and less than supporting drs. I hope you get some relief asap.

I guess it's another night of pain. Did not hear back from Dr office. I give up.

The PM part of the medicines is Benadryl (at least in the US). It's usually cheaper to buy generic Benadryl. Check with pharmacist and doctor before changing meds though.

@KarriB
I think advil has ibuprofen. I put in request to pcp to renew hydrocodone.... he is out til the 1st and nurse is giving me 3rd degree. Claims pcp never prescribed anything for me, but has called pharmacy and got info that he has.... and pharmacy also gave her info that I've had oxycodone prescribed in February and May. Told her it was long gone and used for surgeries. I may just be up the proverbial creek for pain relief. Orthodoc still has not responded about topical pain relief. Don't understand. He acknowledges night pain is a common complaint, yet ignores it. Good thing I'm used to having pain and have lived with it for 30 years. Guess I'll just have to stick it out with excedrin.

This has been the worst summer of my life. It even tops the summer of '72! Could make a movie out of that one! Has a nice ring for the title. Oh wait, maybe they already used it!

One more day, then back to the old grind. Bummer.

Thank goodness you can still be humorous in the midst of pain! I'm sorry that your PCP office is so unresponsive. It is not right. I hope the OS helps.
