Welcome to the August Hot Shots' 2017 Recovery Club!

Please add my name. 1 August 2017 jarginko. I am not very computer literate, I tried following directions but couldn't figure anything out. Help in getting my name on is appreciated.

Hi I had a RTK on 10th August, so five weeks ago yesterday. I am so pleased to have found your site as I have been feeling quite isolated at times! I am in the U.K. And it seems, regarding post op recovery, that we do things a lot different here. The only medical person I have seen since my op was the nurse when I had the metal clips taken out (and she wasn't used to taking out clips so knew nothing about the op or what my progress should be). I do have an appointment to see my consultant, who did the operation, on 26th September. When I left hospital 48hrs after I was given a booklet with lots of information. You all seem to be regularly visiting PTs, no so in the U.K.! So it's been really good to read through all the post op posts on this forum. Thank you it's helped me realise that I am 'normal', with the sleepless nights, frustration and tiredness

My right knee TKR was done on August 15th, 2017. I am officially 4 weeks out as of today. Physical therapy was rough, but I have good flexion. I can totally straighten my knee, and when bending it, I have 125+ flexion according to my therapist. I had the staples removed after two weeks, and it hurt. The therapist said they probably stayed in too long. He now allows me to drive, and I have gone back to work part time (at home at first), although I'm finding it difficult to maintain concentration. The pain comes and goes, it is especially rough at night. My leg was out of alignment (bow legs), but is now straight. My other leg will need the same TKR eventually, but I probably won't get that done for another year or two.

Please ad me to the August List.

I am glad to have found this forum as I have already gotten helpful information and a better understanding as to what to expect over the next few months from both articles and threads. The hardest part for me will be not pushing too fast too soon. We all have expectations and things that need to be done last week. For myself this is two fold. A new puppy which we rescued in June and I am an avid bowhunter. That said, being later up this time of year is difficult. Usually I spend most of my time in the woods. Although the Doc gave me the OK to go. The knee is not in any shape for going afield. My short term goals are to be walking well enough for the end of October to mid November and get the puppy training back on track. Anyway I do believe this forum will help to keep me grounded and focused for the real issue at hand, recovery. Wishing all the best.
