TKR Vice around knee one year post op

What does your day look like as far as activity goes?

I am a first grade teacher. I will admit lots of sitting because of the swelling and tightness. PT said I did not need to do exercise because of my job. Now I wonder if that was a smart move. Not moving around much.

If you live alone and teach first grade, your knee is getting plenty of movement to heal. A list of exercises is not essential.

At 7 months post op you are just past the halfway point of the average year this recovery takes. Try to hang in there, things will get better.

Hi everyone. One year post op. I still have swelling, feeling of pins and needles, plus a vice is squeezing my knee. When I went 2 weeks ago for my one year check up, everything looked good. That was until he pushed on my hip! Said I had bursitis and gave me a shot. Not much relief. I just made an appointment because he said if I wasn’t better to go back. What is going on. Do i need a revision? Scared

I’m sorry you still have that tight feeling. I did, too, at one year. Sometimes it takes some of us longer to recover than others. My tightness improved a lot in my second year.

I‘m also so sorry that you fear the need for a revision. Since it’s been a year since your surgery, it might be a good idea to consider getting a second opinion. If you do, I suggest someone who has no association with your current surgeon, that way you’ll get an unbiased opinion. You may have to go out of your area to accomplish this.

I hope that you will feel improvement as you continue to heal. :console2:

That was until he pushed on my hip!
Did he push on your hip, or did you mean he pushed on your knee?

By the way, I merged your newest thread with your original recovery thread, as we prefer that members in recovery have only one thread.

This benefits you because all your information is in one place, easy to find, and maintains a nice journal for you.

This also benefits our staff, as your information is all in one place, and we often go back through your thread for previous details, so we know what you‘ve been through which helps us advise you better.

So, please keep all your posts in this thread. If you’d like a new title, let us know what you want, and we’ll change it for you.

Many members bookmark their thread in their computer browser, so they can find it when they log on.
How can I find my threads and posts?

Best wishes on your continuing recovery!

He did all of the usual knee movements and I was fine. 130/0 rom. Then he said Stand Up and started pushing on my lateral thigh and around the hip I yelped. He said bursitis and it affects the knee. I got a shot but barely helped. I feel so defeated. Swelling, pin and needles plus the vice around the knee ughh

I’m so sorry he did this. I had a similar situation with a foot doctor who caused me pain during his examination that I didn’t have until he did it!

I think if it was me, I’d be getting a second opinion.

Have you been happy with him during this past year of recovery?

Hello, I had problems after my RTKR and it took me way too long to get a 2nd opinion. I should have done it much earlier. Revision specialists are very good at diagnosing problems. OS who did your surgery are sometimes a bit biased. Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Jockette, to be honest, no I am not thrilled with this guy. I go back November 24, and I will see what he does. Really leaning to a second opinion.

Cjackso21 I am feeling the same way. A year is too long to feel this vice, swelling, pins and needles. I go Nov. 24 and see what he says. If it is a game, this girl is thinking of a second opinion. I have to ask around on a revision OS. I hope I don't need that. Did you need a revision?

Well, I fell yesterday on my knee replacement 14 months post op. I can walk on it. Just some swelling. I do have a doctor appointment tomorrow. I am so scared. I have been icing it. I don’t feel like I messed anything up but the swelling.

I’m so sorry you fell! Hopefully it is “just” soft tissue that is upset. :console2:

Do you still have the swelling and tightness you reported last month? If so, with an appointment, maybe it will open the door to further investigation about the condition of your knee.
