Sore arms/shoulders/hands are a bit of an issue when you've been on two crutches for a while
@Kay9 - Hoppy Nanny gave me some advice after I had a whinge about my sore hands... get some thick leather gloves (not always easy here in Western Australia

, I used snug gardening gloves - NEW ones!!) they help pad the crutch handles. As you start moving more fluidly you don't "hunch" so much so the shoulders thing gets better... don't forget you'll be putting more weight on your leg too, not trying to keep it OFF the leg as you are now.
I cannot emphasize HOW terrified I was pre op, I've had a lot of surgery, was in hospital three times last year, had surgery in June and it was all NOTHING compared with how I felt about this op... I don't know why. I nearly drove my hubby crazy, nearly drove myself crazy come to that

but some sort of switch flicked during the surgery and when I felt SO good as soon as I was back in my room being "positive" was easy, I had said to my OS that my pre op nerves should not be confused with a lack of motivation to be proactive in my recovery - it was nice to prove that to him
I really liked feeling NOT disabled (I had anticipated feeling drugged up and completely vulnerable) and when asked after a couple of hours "do you want to try a few steps on crutches" I thought "why not, if they think I can then I probably can" then when I did a few steps and it didn't hurt, or even feel "odd" I felt so empowered... so many of those dreaded "what if's" were behind me and the ones I was expecting immediately post op were not happening so I felt I could deal with those things that DID come up.
Keep us posted, if I don't get a chance to pop back, all the best for TOMORROW (one more sleep  or not sleep if I know anything about it

) and then at least you know MOST of the "what if's" will be behind you
Donna
