So first day outpatient pt. Not really difficult . Post op eval showed drastic improvement over pre op . Some heat and stim. About six new exercises. Five minutes on bike.stepping over dixie cups. Oh and some ice and compression to finish. Got out in the garden for a bit less than an hour last two days. A little retail therapy with my wife twice .last norco was on twenty fifth. Using tylenol. Bad dreams with norco.gp wrote for tramadol if I would happen to need something stronger than tylenol.

Just checking in with a progress update. It's been about two weeks since I've used the cane around the house. It became more of a game of where did I leave it now. The last four pt sessions were without cane. I carry it like a security blanket in case I get tired. Starting to tire from carrying it. Pt sessions changing every two visits taking away several routines and adding new ones and weights to some of the existing ones. Pt made a comment that I am a master of compensation. The tough part now is canceling the programming that caused me to avoid certain movements because of pain and weakness in the right leg. Pain is most definitely gone and strength is returning fairly quickly. Every day for the past week twodogs has taken two dogs for two walks a day carrying cane. I haven't been able to get one good walk since we got the first dog. Fitbit says about 8500 - 11000 steps per day and I feel like I am holding back to prevent overdoing it. Pre surgery I was in a world of hurt at around 6000 steps. Have an evaluation monday for six week os appointment. the results so far have exceeded my expectations by several universes.

Thank you for the encouraging report. I am two weeks post op from the anterior approach. I still can't lift my leg up when lying down. Was feeling a bit discouraged about that but then read your update. Nice to know that in a few weeks I too could be doing so much more!

I love your last line .. So true. I have same problems with mental messages to avoid pain pre surgery that I have to change up when walking. I guess it becomes habit.. This surgery is really amazing

@kmgraxy I am leaning towards crediting the electo stimulus for waking up the quadriceps. It took four treatments but day after the fourth one leg lifted during home pt without thinking and willing it. When you get to outpatient pt they will work up list of things appropriate to get you back in business. It will happen though.I'll be back on the sidelines cheering you on as it does.
@psychteach I am so caught up in how I am walking I'll probably start running into things.seemed like every time I moved she had some sort of corrective criticism. Sometime today I'll get my wife on board the observation team.later thogh as I think I better practice proper walking and proper criticism handling.

I had a TKR three years ago and my quad muscle didn't work at all for several weeks. I had electrical stim then. I am in outpatient PT - didn't have home PT. Working on my hip but also my knee. My knee became very stiff when my hip got bad so had to have a manipulation of the knee at the same time I had the THR. It complicates things for sure!

Lol.. I find when I walk faster I do better.. Sometimes too much thought when walking slow:)

@kmgraxy I saw a little more to your story in another thread. That's a whole lot of complications to deal with. One thing I realized is that tkr patients had a rougher time in therapy than thr patients. I was convinced before diagnosis that I was going to need a knee as I had most pain there .matter of fact pain was a lot of places but not in the hip and head of femur was collapsing. I think if they got the quads going the last time it should happen again just maybe at a different pace balancing efforts with pt and bs mantra.in any case will be praying for you for comfortable but effective therapy and recovery.

Thank you for your encouragement and prayers! I really appreciate it.

Had my six week os appointment today. Went well. Driving restored.dr and pt both agree good progress but feel room for more. So just like groundhog day, 4 more weeks of outpatient pt. Woohoo!

Reaching right foot for shoe laces..........I was wondering when this would happen and it did on monday. I was applying weight to right ankle for side extensions and without thinking I found myself right there. Mpt had me start elliptical trainer 3 visits ago.since starting this there is significant improvement in my gait. The multihip is getting too easy so expecting an increase from twenty-five pounds. two dogs enjoying two hour long walks each day.

@twodogs I'm enjoying watching your progress. I'm just two weeks out from my THR. Next week I start outpatient therapy. I really had no idea what to expect. I just kept thinking I would be given stretching exercises. I hope my progress mimics yours.

Had last followup with os today at 10 weeks from surgery. I am now released to return to work. One more outpatient pt session to go.logging about 9000 steps on a slow day and peaking around 14000 on a busy day.its hard to remember details from surgery day and the early days at home.10 weeks is not that long so must be my feeble mind dropping details. Main focus now is to continue resuming normal activities without overdoing it. Next visit with os is in a year assuming no problems in the meantime.
had I not found this site I would still be suffering with wacked hip deciding when to get fixed. Thank you all.
