THR Turning point

Poodles... Great training for dogs and all those baths every week before taking to hospice....you and your pups will bring lots of warm hugs and smiles to those who really need a good friend to hold , hug and luv on!
Such an unselfish gift! Poodles and poodles and more poodles never have enough! Vaca is coming soon!

Yipppeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!! We did a "regular" Friday today.

I took the two younger poodles, Isaac and Jameson to a private training lesson today. Jameson has no idea how to walk on a leash or sit properly. Isaac is working toward an Open title in obedience and has not been to a class since December. It was fun. 2 1/2 hours later (we had chit-chat, too) I walked all over a wet, indoor rolled sand arena with two poodles doing separate training. It was snowing outside. My trainer told me she has never seen me walk so well. I have been going to her for 3 years last October.

Tomorrow I have a vet appointment with the new puppy, then need to run back to town a test therapy dogs. Sunday we go to "meet the rat" (puppy) and "find the rat" (Isaac) training, then I am testing the therapy dogs again. GREAT weekend and I feel so happy I am getting back to my life.

Happy weekend fellow Hippies!

Oh @Poodles i needed to read your post about when you go too much you are miserable! I am right about where you are and I want it to be done also.

Did too much on Thursday and yesterday I was yucky. Sat and grumbled all day.

My husband had cancer 2 years ago and next week is his check up. It’s my turn to be strong and I was SO angry with myself! It will get easier but I am ready NOW!

@Walkinginthesand It's SO EASY to overdo. Honestly, I am watching this silly Fitbit for steps...not trying for a lot, but I have figured out when I'm going to have an issue. I am gaining on 5,000 steps a day, but I learned the hard way to go slowly. It has helped me say "NO" to doing too much. The silly sand at the training center worried me and I thought it was going to do me in yesterday, but I had my best night of sleep so far and actually had no problem laying on the surgery side. I slept nearly all night. No additional pain today.

So saying all that, I took the puppy to the vet for a flu shot today, next I am off to walk through a nursing home while testing a therapy dog team. Then I am DONE...maybe. I might have one more dog team to test later today. Hoping to leave the cane in the SUV.

I hope your husband gets a perfect report at his checkup. I'll be sending you both good thoughts! You especially, for needing to be the strong one.

Such great news! I'm so glad to see you getting back to what you love to do. It does add a spring to the step!

@Poodles .....so happy to read your latest posts, and that you are picking up the reins of your life again. And what an opportunity for you and your boys to visit the Hospice.....hard but so worth it. Hope you're all enjoying a wonderful Easter weekend, and remembering to rest in between all this activity!

@anny Happy Easter and thank you. I am trying to do my best to move and regain what I had a long time ago. It's been 5 years since I really was comfortable moving. You understand how that is!

We made a long weekend trip to one of our favorite places with the motorhome. Absolutely beautiful trip. I keep thinking the stiffness and soreness from the muscles will be gone every time I stand up! LOL. Not yet! I have vowed to go up and down stairs regular, albeit slow. As for hip pain, there is none, blessedly.

I'm excited to be moving back into my old activities and taking on a few new ones. I hope everyone has some of the same joys I have. I hope you are doing well, too!

@Poodles Worry not - you will regain all your mobility. Just don't push this. Slow and steady. It can take up to a year depending on how long you limped around pre-op.

Glad you enjoyed your motorhome trip!

@Poodles and @Jaycey I am so glad to see your posts. I was wondering if I was having trouble or what was happening. Surgery was right before yours @Poodles and hip pain is gone but after sitting and then first several steps I am stiff, sore and limp terribly. Getting frustrated. I have limped for years and that is what I am working so hard to correct. Thank you @Jaycey gof the reassurance it will come. Patience is not my virtue when it comes to accepting own limitation.

@SaraK I am ready just to walk upright! It is to the point that my cane gets in my way. I just go slowly and like you said, slowly it gets better.:dancy: Going to Tulsa to visit MIL over the weekend. Taking my double baggies so I can get ice at QT and hotel. :umm:

I got the old fashioned ice bags - less likely to leak and less condensation. Cheapo I got at grocery store has better waterproofing than the one at Walgreen's/CVC

@Walkinginthesand This stiffness has just got to go away! Yesterday our GM wanted to talk to me in our H. R. department. Hmmm...so they couldn't walk into my office and close the door????? Okay...I said...I'll be there in a minutes (30 steps away). I fell like a sloth always moving in slow motion when I start out!!!!!!

I am riding my stationary bike and Gary said it sounds like I am riding up a mountain (he is downstairs nearly under the bike) at full speed! I'm not. I'm trying to be reasonable. I just want to be "Normal". I have things to do, places to go, people to see! I have a puppy to train and an older poodle to compete with and darn it, I have been held hostage long enough by my hips.

Today I took a muscle relaxer and what a difference!!! Mine are only good for about 4 hours, but I took one, once I got to work, and I could get up and move easier. I still had to stretch out first, but I moved fairly well. What a concept! I have a terrible issue with swallowing pills, so it isn't a great option for me.

@Walkinginthesand hang in there, we're going to get better. @Jaycey is right from what I remember from the first one. We are supposed to be patient. Right? We can be patient together.

This slow and patient thing is the hardest thing.....I used to have loads of patience, but it seems to have dribbled away the older I get! @Poodles what are these muscle relaxants? Are they prescribed or otc? My right glutes feel as if I've done a couple of hundred squats (not that I've ever done 200 squats but using my imagination!) and could do with letting go a little :umm:

@anny You made me laugh!!!!! I'm with you on the squats! That's it and just using my right side. Glad my left side is already fixed!!!

They are prescribed and yesterday they were a lifesaver. It didn't take away all the sore and stiffness, but enough that I felt mobile. Although I feel perfectly "normal" alert and such when I take one, didn't feel I should drive with them, so that's why I waited until I got to work to take it. Worn off by the time I left here (by a couple of hours), but I did do better during the day. At least my workmates are used to me moving like a sloth and most will walk into my office...even though I want to walk to theirs... :groan: albeit slowly at the start.

Sloth, bahahaha! You crack me up @Poodles
Hope you're doing well.
Wishing you a great weekend with Gary and the boys! :dogsniff: < Just pretend he looks like your guys.
That's a stretch! :heehee:
