PKR TIGHT BAND..

Happy Two Month Anniversary!
I hope you have a great week, JJ. Thanks for sharing your journey with us. :) :-) (:
@JennJon

9 weeks out from my Partial KR…just had a cortisone injection in my left knee(that’s ones next to be totally replaced)..YAY, it feels so good !! My surgery knee is feeling Good! I still have tight band feeling, mild swelling in ankle at end of my work day. Down to 1 x a week for PT, started putting weight on bended knee (on a cushion on a chair to start) ..so far so good! ROM is at 112/115 but with the mild swelling/tight band it’s hard to get it more. PT says icing is really doing nothing to my knee anymore, true? I do stand on my legs at work(hair stylist) but I make sure to sit and put leg up every hour…I have NO PAIN and nothing BAD since the day I walked into surgery ….some pretty intense zingers started today, a couple at incision site & some at my numb area,..Hope the feeling is coming back! Happy Weekend everyone….love this weather in MN

PT says elevation & compression is all that will help with mild swelling ..not icing. I still like icing when I get home and periodically through out the weekend..‍

That is very strange -- I wonder where he got that idea. There is loads of documentation that icing is a great treatment for both inflammation AND pain.

If icing feels good, do it! You and I are both at about the same stage of recovery and I'm still icing and elevating every evening.

I wonder what your surgeon advises?
Icing helps bring relief from the soft tissue trauma and internal swelling. Icing is a great natural pain reliever and best of all, it's free. Icing after therapy, exercises, or prolonged activity that challenge ROM and endurance should help ease any discomfort, or preventively keep pain at bay.
As long as it seems to be helping and you enjoy it, I say Go For It!
Happy Three Month Anniversary, JennJon! Enjoy the rest to the week! :)

Hello!! Almost 15 weeks out from my partial knee replacement and doing GREAT!!! I am 100% satisfied with my new knee!!! Mild numbness in a spot but very doable, zingers are a daily thing, love those nerves coming alive! I can actually go down on my knee(s) but slowly, feels fine! PT ended at the end of February & so glad I continued with it till my PT said “there’s nothing more I can do for you” I do need to keep up better on my home exercises, I can tell if I miss to much…my job as a hair stylist is going great , I can stand and walk great! No more “Waiting” to sit, relax or bend my knee. I can finish a 6 hr day and walk normal to my car. I now hope thst my second knee replacement goes as well, thus one will be a Full one. I learned much from this replacement and from all of you and your advice an awesome encouragement! I hope to help others too in getting through a surgery like this….we all need each other! Thank you again!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️

What a fabulous update!!! :wow:

As someone who has had two total knees, I am always surprised at the variability among partials - for some of our members we see a timeline just like that for a total, and then there's a bunch of members like you who are way better than before surgery within four months.

Great update, JennJon! Thanks for sharing the good news. Let us know when you get the TKR scheduled and we'll add it to your signature and be here to support you through the journey.
A great week to you! :)

Hi @JennJon! Just noticed an update from you in another member's thread. It sounds like you are doing very well after your PKR.

How about sharing a quick update here? I think folks would appreciate knowing that your concerns about the tight band feeling resolve.

Also, we look forward to hearing more from you as you approach your October TKR!

Best Wishes for your surgery tomorrow, JennJon.
We'll be watching for your first update. Hope to see you soon!

Well ..my Total Knee replacement(my left knee) went well(Oct 1st)…Doctor said 8 years did a lot of damage in there. But I was lucky that cortisone shots were STILL working after 4 yrs of them.

18 days in and I have NO knee pain, you know “that pain” . Been off pain meds for about a week & half now, I hate them. PT 2x a week, I got the BEST PT guy! My best friend through this recovery is my Breg Polar Care Wave, ice machine that keeps COLD water flowing at my knee. I had my mother for 2 days after surgery & been on my own (during the day) husband is the Sheriff of our county so he is busy….but he took me to PT the 1st 2 weeks. All 28 staples out on day 15, I can also drive now!! Doctor is impressed with my incision and the minimal swelling. My knee hasn’t been completely straight/flat for 8 years after a meniscus surgery, the surgeon never offered or ordered PT( I asked for it 3 months after the surgery). Sadly that only hurt the small muscled/tendons etc in and around my knee…PT was amazed that I was not sent there right after surgery (back note: I had severely torn the meniscus but couldn’t have surgery for about 30 days because some other health issues found needed to be done 1st, so I walked on a VERY swollen, bent knee way to long, PT said I should have been there at least a week after the surgery)…

Anywho…. I am so glad to know my knee will be as good as my other (Partial Knee replacement 12/12/23) … I have absolutely no pain or issues with this one …. The tight band thing was do annoying in that one & I haven’t in this one too but not letting it bother me this time. It must just be me! I am off for 5 weeks with this one, then trying VERY part time beck at work(hairstylist) I can set my own hours….it was awesome this time around having a “good leg to stand on”! and give me better help. I wish everyone out there having this surgery the BEST of Luck…do what your doc says, work good with your PT person..it does get better…❤️

Thanks for the update, @JennJon. Sounds like your recover is off to a good start.

It really helps to have had that prior experience with other knee, doesn't it? I found that everything was less worrisome with my second recovery.

Take things slowly and take advantage of your time off to rest and recover. We're here for you!

…it’s an ease to my mind & body knowing it from a previous surgery BUT that one was soooo easy that I continually have to tell myself “this is a FULL replacement, it’s definitely more of a surgery & recovery! ❤️

Also, I can attest (from experience) to our BoneSmart mantra that "every knee is different, even two knees in the same person"!

Slow and steady!

Happy One Month Anniversary, JennJon!
Hope your recovery continues to go well and you're pleased with the progress you're making.
Have a great weekend and stay in touch!
@JennJon

Thank you!!! It’s going good! I went back to work(12 hours a week, hairstylist) on November 4, knee did better then I expected!…

Still doing PT 2 days a week. Leg is flat but my bending is slower going. ROM 100 at 5 weeks. Bottom of knee cap is not wanting to listen and slide smoothly…we are working on it. I can now go up stairs but down is not as good. I am still very positive & glad I had the surgery. My other knee replacement (partial right knee) was a walk in the park, so I need to continue to remind myself that this is much MORE of a surgery!…I am moving forward each week not backwards, just slower November 12 will be 6 weeks since surgery.
I am giving a shout out to my fantastic PT guy Riley at our hospital. I am going 3X this week & he told me Wednesday to “now go home & relax it, you are doing 3x this week”…hope anyone else recovering is doing good! Listen to your knee, like someone says on another post here(about a hip) the pain etc, isn’t always the replacement joint, it’s our anatomy getting changed around from being how it was to now adjusting to the new thing the doc put in us!!!(well not exactly the same wording) but when I read that I COMPLETELY agree, thus knee has had many issues for 8 years. Told Riley, remember it’s been bent at a small degree for 8 yrs, it hasn’t had a full ROM for 8 years…

It sounds like you're making great progress for only five weeks post op, JennJon. You are very upbeat and your positivity will take you far. Don't forget about the benefits of -> :ice: if you ever have a rough day at work or overdo it at PT.

Yes! It is major surgery and controlled trauma that we experience and recovery does take time. Sounds like you're on your way. Enjoy! :walking:

Happy Two Month Anniversary, JennJon!
I hope you're still thriving and managing the time on your feet at work well.
It is a busy time of year as we're in throes of holiday season. Wishing you a happy healthy season and a wonderful 2025. Take Care!
