Dear Janet
After all you have been through, I imagine you could write the book on "Healing Phases and Processes", eh? But I don't think it's reading material you need just now.
I'm really sorry that your relationship has foundered over all this. I know very little about you, or Bill. But I do know how persistent illness or disability places a sometimes insurmountable stress on all concerned. (I am not referring to my hip surgeries here.)
You were one of the first to welcome me to this forum, when I initially asked for advice on a suspected infection in my hemi-arthroplasty. It did turn out to be an infection, and I have since had a 2-stage revision. All is going well, at present. I have just had a review, and do not have to go back for 2 years. I am cautiously optimistic.
A great friend of mine has recently split from her husband of 30+ years. Although it has been obvious for some time that they were no longer happy together, she found the transition period very difficult. All those silly things, such as sorting out who should keep what, redirecting mail, letting people know... I just want to say that I saw her a couple of evenings ago, and she was a different person. Confident and strong.
Can you perhaps try to see this time as simply: the transition period? You have already used one of my favourite phrases: This too shall pass. I think that's the only way forward.
All my best wishes.
Glynis
