Knee Infection* The girl with the two fake knees

I feel so good today!! I can walk without my cane, but just around the house for now! Not perfectly, but much better. I use my cane in public though because I still look frankenstein-ish. The scar is almost all scabbed off and no open spots at all!! I have my preop and history/physical on Friday. It's only 12 days until RTKR. Really looking forward to 2 perfectly functioning knees.

And, although I really liked going to PT, I've canceled my appointments for this week and did not schedule any for next week. I want to prepare for my RTKR. But, I continue to do my own PT at home and I don't get a lot of pain and it's a lot easier to walk afterwards. So, I think I made the right decision for myself.

Baby knee is 9 weeks old today. :) One of the best decisions I've ever made.

Time for AHS! Best wishes to my fellow Bonesmarties!!

Great news, Jen! The 28th will be here before you know it!

Jen, glad to hear you are feeling better, this whole ride can be s roller coaster! Up one day, down the next. I have PT again tomorrow, I almost dread going as it has taken me two days to recover from Monday! I will go though and give them a hard time if they try more pushing! I like riding the bike, so I go Just for that!
You are getting closer for that second knee, then we will both have two good legs to stand on!
Blessings

This was my knee two weeks after surgery:

And this is my knee at 9 weeks, 1 day:

So glad that upper part has healed! I do wear a big bandaid over it during the day so the dry skin doesn't snag and make another opening. The very top is just such an awkward area. I don't want anything to postpone my RTKR!!!

Are you sure you'll lose your job and your insurance? When I was switched to LTD, I still kept my job and my insurance until I retired. I think you will be considered inactive as of December. I believe, but not sure, that it's against the law to fire someone on DB. You might want to check and be sure.

Thank you Paula, I will have to look into the disability laws. I've never been on it before and I'm a little frustrated as I'm not getting my STD like I think I should be. I'll work on it this week before Thanksgiving.

Feeling better and better each day! I use my cane less and less at home. I am still limping, but I know that will get better after my RTKR on 11/28. I'm hoping my legs will be even and anatomically correct. I'll be back to the walker-then crutches-then cane again, but I'm fine with that.

I had my pre-op testing and H/P on Friday. My OS did the H/P because the PA was sick, so that was interesting! He said that my right knee is not as bad as my left. He anticipates it will do better because I won't need the long tibial stem and I've only had one scope on it. I'm hoping to go home after 3 days like last time, but we'll see. At least I know what to expect now, even though I know it will be different, it helps keep the anxiety at bay! I also asked him if there was anything else I could use instead of Lovenox (which is made from porcine products and I don't consume pork). I'm thinking it will be Xarelto, but he wanted to do some research. Fine by me! I don't mind giving myself shots, but I want it to not have pork in it!!! Did a lot of up and down and walking a bit more during my appointments on Friday and I did pretty well!!!

Not much else, just hoping to make it through the week and that it goes quickly! I have three different Thanksgivings to go to, so that will keep me busy! Thurs, Fri, and Saturday. And I'm going to Mara's house for dinner on Weds. I also have to go to my office to get my stuff that I left, since I thought I was going back after my ankle surgery in June! Staying overnight at my boyfriend's on Thursday and it is the first and only time I've been able to do this since my LTKR. Hopefully it will go ok there and the dinner we're going to at his aunt's house. Just trying to stay busy!

We have snow here in Western NY! I hope it makes up for the lack of winter we had last year! I'm a winter person!

Keep on keepin' on fellow Bonesmarties!

One more week until my RTKR! I'm impatiently waiting....

Baby knee is 10 weeks old today! I am 5 days out from RTKR and trying to wait patiently for next Monday. I have never had two working knees, so this is a big deal for me!!! Can't wait to be on the other side with both of them done.

I went to my office yesterday to get the books and stuff I left behind when I left for, what I thought was going to be my only, surgery in June. It was all boxed up and ready to go! It was so nice to see everyone and I felt genuinely missed! I got an update on my clients and it was generally good reports, thankfully. My old office is being used by the art therapist, and she and another colleague are covering the co-occurring program for me. It's a big office because group is also held in it, one of the things I didn't really like about it when it was mine. I met with the big boss to give him my keys and ID because I'm being taken off the payroll on December 14. He said that he wants me back in my position and that he is going to keep it open for me until I'm ready to come back! Even though it won't be until March! He said to keep him updated and when I'm ready, I can come back! That is such a relief for me. Even though this isn't my dream job, it's a big hospital and agency (Rochester Regional Health) and there are always open positions for a child therapist (which is my calling). It just means that I can work and save money and not have to worry about looking for a job while I'm recovering from my RTKR. I'm also going to ask to get the small office that appears to be available. I think it would help me concentrate better and also have separation between individual sessions and group sessions. We'll see!

So, I'm trying to stay busy. Was going to visit my BFF today but they are all down with colds, so she said it was up to me. I decided not to chance it this close to surgery. She said she felt really bad about it, but she is always looking out for me! I have a few errands and I'm going for a drive today to avoid going crazy!

Hello to all my fellow recovery Bonesmarties. :)

You are in my prayers! I wish I was getting ready to get my done, but my first isn't ready to take over yet. Please let us know how you are doing as soon as you can!

Jen, just popping in to wish you luck on your next new knee and hoping you have a great Thanksgiving too!!

Also, great news about your job, that will keep the stress down as you heal!
Blessings, Lene'

Great news about your job! You're right, now you can recover without worrying about job hunting! :yes!:

Wonderful news about your job!!!! You are a valued employee and know you can go back whenever you want! What a blessing! Your holidays will be so much better now without that worry on you! I was pretty sure you couldn't be fired while on DB and you're not. It's just a different company paying you now. Have a very blessed and happy Thanksgiving!

Right knee is done! Didn't wake up as alert and raring to go like after my LTKR, but it still went well. No nausea or feeling to vomit, which is great! Still working to get the pain under control and it's about a 3 right now. They didn't try a spinal again, at my request, and I have a wound vac again!! The outer part of the knee hurts the most, but it is somewhat tolerable. Let the healing commence!!!

Somewhat chaotic up here in the surgical floor, and I'm hoping that doesn't last. Will keep on them for ice and, meds, no matter what!!

Even though I feel worse waking up this time, I am already happy having the right one done. And, of course, I was walking normally today before my surgery (with a cane) for the first time since my ltkr! I will get there again.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it!!

Jen
