Oh that's awkward then! I know how those places work - 'intensive' comes to mind!

Re: 6 months post op

I see.....But they should accomodate a ' reasonable adjustment' in terms of Equality and Diversity and its not an unreasonable request to have a little break from your desk after surgery. If your boss can't authorise it then you need to go through the OH again or HR, they should be able to help you out. Are you registered disabled? Because its agsinst the DDA 'rules' for an emplyer not to make reasonable adjustments in order for you to be sble to do your job....just in case you need to get serious with them!,

Dear Blue Roses,

This is more a message of sympathy than anything else. Jo's advice for keeping things together is brilliant, as always, but however good that advice may be, there really is no substitute for getting up to walk about. Lisa seems to have the right idea. Rather than jeopardise your health you may have to be as assertive as it takes to get a regime that is going to allow you to work effectively, whilst taking effective steps towards a full recovery.

And from the firm's point of view, surely it cannot be good to have a worker who is finding it hard to concentrate fully owing to worrying physical symptoms. If it takes registering yourself as temporarily disabled to achieve what you need then it looks as if that is what you are going to have to do.

If the ETB's have not yet driven Union representation out of your workplace, maybe there is somebody from the relevant union who can help you with the technicalities? If so that might be an avenue to try.

I have a daughter only a few years younger than you. If this were to be happening to her, I would be itching to punch somebody on the nose, in an effort to brighten their ideas up. That being so, at least you can feel grateful that I am not your dad.

All the best, Alan
