Suggestions for what to wear in hospital and at home

Grin. Knee recovery is not the time to worry about fashion. It's all about comfort and function.

I wore short sleeved pj's with 3/4 length bottoms & also took in shorts & t-shirt for walking around in after op, this was better than wearing a dressing gown, you won't want anything touching the knee. I wore sketches type shoes with velcro fastening as easier to put on & adjust, I couldn't get slippers on! After a couple of weeks I wore log bottoms loose around the knee.

suemegane: did you just wear shorts at the hospital? I think sweat pants would be more comfortable, but I guess the doctors, nurses, etc. want to be able to see the incision most easily?

I was in hospital 3 nights I wore the hospital gown for the first night, then pj's at night & when I was up and walking I found it better to wear the shorts, t-shirt during the day. Yes it was easier for the nurses, surgeon & physiotherapists to see the knee saves rolling up a trouser leg. Also I could not stand anything on my knee not even the bed sheets.

I will tell you that I was so out of it on Oxycontin that I could have been wearing a pink tutu and I would not have cared. It is all about function and comfort.

On a side note, we heat our home with a woodburner, and a very good friend of mine stopped by. I guess I had the stove cranked up to a temperature where you could smelt metal, but I was cold and oblivious to it.

I was feeling comfortable wearing tshirt and shorts in hospital (was there a week), easy for everyone to check the incision
At home, wear whatever you want and feel comfy with!

Great suggestions here! Initially in the hospital, (day 2 after surgery) I wore a pair of my husband's old knit baggy gym shorts under his 'break-away' warm-up pants, that snapped up both legs. I figured the docs & nurses could access my knees pretty easily, and also could have the cryo cuff icing apparatus on both knees. For home, I had several pairs of stretchy sweat-type/lounge pants with straight, full legs and pockets. (some of the men's sleep pants work great!) Really liked the pockets for carrying my phone, pill containers, etc. as I moved from one area to another. The loose pant legs easily pulled up past my knees, and these were also my attire for all of my PT sessions, so the therapists could check, massage, etc. the incisions as necessary.
I also had Sketchers sneakers with the elastic laces that could just slip on and off (I used the elongated shoe horn - was great!!) They are so lightweight and have great traction.
Best wishes for your upcoming surgery!!

Thanks for all the input everyone! I sure do appreciate all the suggestions and support. Four days to go and I am trying to keep the nerves at bay...

It will all be over before you know it. Try to go see some friends for lunch or dinner in the next few days or plan something else to do. If you plan to do something each of the next two days the time will go quickly.

Good idea @newlybionic ... I have been thinking the same thing. I think I may go see a couple of movies at the theatre to kill a few hours, and I have an evening planned for a nice dinner with my hubby. I figure I may as well go out as much as possible before I get confined to the house, lol. Maybe some retail therapy too...:)

Yes, get out of the house every day right now and have some fun, because that won't happen for awhile after surgery.

I went to a show the evening before my last TKR. it passed the evening pleasantly and stopped me worrying.
