THR Severe stiffness where my leg won't hang straight

I'm going to try the stomach stretches...that sounds like what i need.

And I did forget my BIG stretch (less like a stretch and more like a way of life) I'm supposed to lay flat on my back for 30 min 3 times a day. i DO have to bend my leg and wiggle it for a few seconds every 5 minutes to keep my head from exploding!:arghh:

I'm leaning more towards Southern Utah as my anti-snow destination...

Hi Lisa,

I hate that racing mind stuff -- especially if it's the negative/worry stuff. I hope you got some sleep and that today will be a bit brighter for you. Would it help you to keep a little notebook of some of the exercises that you do and the improvements or changes that you see as you continue to move forward? I see that your flexion has gone from 15 to 14 to 13 and that IS progress. :yes 4:

Are you doing any pool work at the Y? You had mentioned that a while ago. Does it help you to mix up your routine some? Do you skip days of the hip flexor stretches and rest too? It is always important to rest, it is still early from a big surgery and there is healing from it and healing from exercise that has to occur for progress to be made.

Wondering out loud here... you mention that you have some back pain like when you try to do walking with the cane. Would it be helpful to consult with either a chiropractor or a massage person to work on your muscles in low back area? I have the pelvic tilt and spine twist from the LLD -- maybe you have that as well and could use some work on the back muscles to assist in helping the hip muscles to progress. I get some deep massage on my quadratus lumborum muscle & sometimes follow-up at home with laying on a yoga mat and putting a tennis ball under my pelvis & low back in the sore spots.

Will send a nice rubber mallet for you to pound the PT person on the head next time they make the "you're not a kid...might not be able to stretch...have some more surgery...." comment -- NOT helpful! :skeptical:

Hang in there kid, it is a bit of a roller coaster ride...

Hi Lisa

Just catching up and it is usually a year before you see a vast improvement,
My problem was my back very stiff at times but around the nine month mark for no unknown reason my back problems have improved.
I also am not a teenager any more I have reached the stage that I am looking for what I feel that is the best possible outcome from my hip replacemnt.

Hi Lisa,
I think the sleeplessness going on for so long wasn't something I was planning on. That in itself can make all the frustrations harder to deal with. I guess the tears aren't unexpected really- although it still takes me by surprise when out of the blue I feel really sad or snappy. As the weeks go by mostly I think it will get easier. Also the suggestion of more surgery cant be easy. I've got a lot of scar tissue by my wound - so it has crossed my mind to and I am going to put it to the back of my mind now. I think we all knew we would have to be patient but it is hard when we have to be more patient than we were expecting to be. Having a pool at home must be lovely. If you do get a treadmill at home please be careful and take it easy on the tricks !!!!!:loll: Do hold on tight- I have a vision of you flying across the room. I have started going to the hospital gym and using the equipment and it does seem helpful. Looking forward to hydrotherapy tomorrow.
sending hugs and happy thoughts:friends:

Lisa, I really think all that PT and stuff is what is getting your mind racing. It doesn't know when to switch off! Have you considered trying some relaxation exercises/self hypnosis to counter the 'up' time in PT? Rest is equally as important as exercise, y'know!

Hi Lisa,

Hope things are seeming a bit better today! :friends:Sorry my message seemed so devoid of feelings I had a computer glitch and lost what I had been writing and then was pressed for time and just quickly spit out what I could remember in a fairly business-like manner....

Jo is right rest is important. I like the relaxation/hypnosis idea... I am now going for broken link removed: https://www.rolf.org/about as my issues are supposedly related to soft tissue issues -- well, we'll verify this on Friday when I have another series of x-rays at the OS's office...

Take care,
Cardie
