THR Seeing the Light!

Hey pretty lady.
Hope all has been getting better.
Will you be doing Turkey Day at your place or....?
Our Food Bank provided a big early free meal at our soul kitchen yesterday, and we have given out over 60 turkey dinners for struggling families to prepare.
I'm already ready to be Done with Thanksgiving, except for the days off, of course.
Hope you have a wonderful holiday!

:friends:
Let’s hear it for four months. I agree this is a huge staging post.

Don’t listen to all these folk. The big message is things need time to heal and strengthen.
My Pilates teacher thinks walking in water for15 minutes is more than enough for me. The mind and body may be willing but the hip is asking for more care.

You guys all rock! Thank you @Apricot and @Mojo333 .
Yesterday I saw the PT. He is super happy and taught me how to get down on the floor and begin to move my operative leg into (bent-leg) lateral rotation. He is happy that I am doing the pilates and can notice already the change in my movement.

Also — when I am walking without the cane (ok, it was early in day) he couldn’t tell the different in my gait between my legs. He wants me to use the cane when I am tired (yeah, by like 5 pm yesterday) or when it is icy out (yeah, it is winter here). Otherwise, early in the day he wants me to start going without it. I am seeing him again in three weeks.

(On another note, he wants me to have a talk with “Patient Relations” about my OS. He agrees that I was mistreated and has other patients similarly mistreated by this OS. I am not sure I want to revisit those painful occasions to pursue this).

I have gone 6 days with no Tylenol and two days with no Celebrex. I am still achy a bit but managing right now.
I am taking a hot bath every night...and lightly massaging the area around my incision while in the bathtub (recommended by PT).

I AM SO THANKFUL FOR YOU ALL. I AM WISHING YOU A BEAUTIFUL (NOISY OR QUIET, WHATEVER YOU HAVE) AMERICAN DAY OF GRATITUDE....Thanksgiving. I am so thankful we are all healing...eventually.

So happy to hear you happy and hopeful.:happydance:
All these hiccups are certainly frustrating, but when I got Too In My Head about them, I remembered how badly my hips hurt pre-op...how sleep deprived and Old I felt.
Now life is indeed happy and full again!

I wouldn't let that bad experience live rent free in my mind either..but then again maybe he needs a record of his rudeness.
Either way, I'm glad you are moving forward.
Have a great day!

Happy Three Month Anniversary!
Yay for getting down on the floor! :yay: That's an awesome milestone.
It's nice to hear your PT is noticing progress in your movement. Sometimes others notice our progress more than we do. I hope you find it easy to use the cane less and your pain continues to dissipate.
Wishing you comfort, love and many blessings as we begin the holiday season.
Hugs

How are you getting g on walking without the cane and how long do you do it for? Getting up off the floor is really impressive. You are doing brilliantly x

@SurreyGirl it is going ok. I am getting tired more quickly (who knew the outside world was so big? Who knew the cane was protecting me so much?) but I also know I am using more of my muscles...which is good in the long run.

Thanksgiving took a big bite out of me...I needed to take tylenol to get through dinner. Tonight we are going downtown to the theater and I am going to bring the cane. Will also bring it to New York when I go see my son in ten days.

Again, @Layla et al, I am so so so so tired. T-giving took a super big bite out of me and I just can’t seem to regain my energy. first thing in the morning it seems I have energy and then...boom. Gone.
I am dragging myself about. I have given up on coffee and Earl Grey tea — neither are working. Today I bought Yerba Mate hoping it would help.
I am just no fun anymore!

I feel as though my immune system is just — super low.

I am supposed to go to New York to see my son next week. I feel as though I will basically be in the hotel room lying down like the whole time...and he will be sitting next to me, chattering at me. (Me, snoring.)

Anyone else? Immune systems seem low at all??

Poor you..... this recovery business is a pain. Hope you manage to get enough spark back to cope with New York. Walking without the crutch is tiring and makes me feel heavier! So I get where you are coming from.

Btw I have no idea what Yerba Mate is?!!

@SurreyGirl it’s a tea they drink in Argentina. High in caffeine...and really high in vitamin c...kept the Gauchos from getting scurvy!

Hi friend.
Glad to see you post.
You are going to get your mojo back...and your energy.
Might be useful to get some bloodwork done if you feel something is amiss?
Vitamin D? Vitamin B12?

Hi, I'm really sorry you're feeling so fatigued.
If you're thinking it's your immune system I'm assuming you've tried all the old standbys -
Pro-biotics....since 70-80% of our immune system lies within our intestinal tract.
Lots of sleep, if you're able
Cutting out sugar which weakens our immune function
Adequate protein - animal sources...Meat, Fish, Eggs
Lots of non starchy veggies
Wonder if you should get your B-12 checked?
Are you going to have the energy to travel to NYC? Schlepping through the airport etc
I hope you experience a turn around soon. You've had a rough ride. I'm so sorry you're still struggling.
Big hugs to you and wishes for brighter days. :console2: Please keep us posted.

Anyone else? Immune systems seem low at all??

I was wondering about this also- how long does it take for our immune system to get back to normal after the surgery. I had my surgery on July 18th. My hip has been doing GREAT since 4 months post surgery. However, last week I got a cold and cough which then developed into a respiratory infection. It's been 10 days and I usually bounce back to health much quicker. I was wondering if the surgery had anything to do with it. Or maybe it's because I'm now 60 years old. Or maybe a combination of the two? I don't know.

I hope that you're feeling better soon and that your time with your son in New York goes well.

@BarbyDoll @Mojo333 @Layla
Thanks for reminders. I am doing d3, I take b12 shots, sauerkraut, tons of fish. Other stuff too. I have lots in my pharmacy and arsenal. Just decided that I am going to request wheelchair service in airport. Yep, that is me in that chair. I am the one with the shiny new hip, eating my pride.
