RTKR on May 14

And I actually used large bags of frozen peas and corn...old fashioned but it worked !:hysterical:

I didn't have an ice machine because at the time I wasn't aware they existed. But if I have my other knee done, I'm getting one. I don't know that one brand is any better than another, but to me the motorized function is important. I loved icing my knee and it really helped with pain.

I had my preop visit today with my OS and then went to the hospital and did all my admissions stuff. The hospital never received my EKG info from my PCP so I had to have another one done. They also drew blood to determine my blood type. I met with an admissions counselor, a nurse and then a nurse practicioner who put my patient bracelet on with instructions not to remove it until I am discharged next week. They also gave me 3 packs of antiseptic wipes to use the evening before my surgery.

I also found out today that I will need to be at the hospital by 5:30am:sleep:

I have ordered an ice machine and a leg wedge. I guess I am all set, except to pack a bag!

Hi Kathy, Do you have links to the ice machine and leg wedge you ordered? My surgery is on Mon May 14 and I need to get this done asap! Thanks so much.

Hi and welcome, I am just a few days before you having my left knee done this Friday. Gained lots of advice from this forum particularly about types of anaesthetic as I hadn't realised there was a choice. Getting rather nervous now just having two days left to prepare but looking forward to getting started on the rehabilitation.

Footsmart.com is where I got mine, but there might be others. It comes in two sizes depending on your height. It works grest on the bed. Google leg elevating cushion to find other options maybe.

I ordered the wedge from Amazon -- it's the blue foam wedge pictured in the Library article about Elevating. I ordered the DonJoy machine from BetterBraces.com.

Since I won't actually need them until I get out of the hospital and not by Monday, I figured I still had time to order them this week.

Happy shopping!

Glad you've made it through the pre-op process. Not long now to a new knee!

Hi Everyone -- just signed up after browsing the threads for a few days. Glad to have found this site.

I am having RTKR on May 14, 2012. I needed to wait until a slow time at work before I could comfortably take the time necessary to rehab, rest and recover. That also means I have plenty of time to stress over what is coming. My husband asked me last night if I was scared, apprehensive or happy that I'm going to maybe be pain free. "All three" was my answer!

I am looking forward to reading more of your postings regarding your own experiences with TKR -- knowledge is power, after all.

Best wishes on Monday, Kfriedm! See you on the other side!

Thanks for the good wishes -- hope to see you on the other side as well! Not only are we having our surgeries on the same day, I think we're both at roughly the same time! I've been told to arrive at 5:30am, but was not told what time the surgery is scheduled to begin.

Yes, I was told to be at the hosp. by 5:45 for 7:30 am surgery, so probably yours will be at the same time as mine. Are you having general or spinal?

I don't know whether I will have general or spinal yet. I didn't meet with an anesthesiologist during preop so I guess I'll be surprised :th_heehee:

Good luck to you both. Mine is pm surgery which starts at 1330 so I'm guessing with the time difference we will all be having synchronised knee replacements :th_heehee:

See you on the other side

Good luck all of you having your op tomorrow. May 14 is the 2 year anniversary of my THR. Glad you are joining my anniversary date. See you on the other side.

Kathy - Not long now. Wishing you all the best for your surgery tomorrow!
