TKR Right TKR 28th November

Thank you both so much, it’s been hard coming to terms with the disappointment I feel, never could I have imagined I would be sitting here writing this!!! But I am, the hardest part for me is all the emotions I had been feeling as the date got nearer, only then to feel such utter disappointment being told it’s been cancelled. Even the pre meds I’d taken didn’t help to soften the blow, but it is what it is, so now I need to stay positive.
The first thing I did was get back on the naproxen as that medication has been a game changer for me, it’s honestly helped me to live a normal life, and honestly to keep my job, it really has been a miracle pill for me.
I’ve had to undo all the plans that were put in place for me to have the operation, the hardest part has been having to answer everyone’s questions.
I now have to go through the pre opp bloods & swabs again as they will be out of date by the 12th.
The operation being cancelled last minute has a snowball affect and affects a lot of people.
The plus side is by the time I go back on the 12/12/24 this new unit would have ironed out a lot of the teething problems which they are having.
So on a positive note least I’m prepared for the 12th now less of the unknown.
Once again thank you so much for the support it really means a lot x

Oh dear, I can't even imagine. What a way to have to switch gears. Sending a ((hug)).

As you noted, there is so much involved, aside from the disappointment and initial shock. Hopefully you have it all under control and you're able to have a peaceful relaxing weekend. :console2:

Oh no!!! But surprised they did not know about this missing piece until right up to the surgery…I am not a medical person but I would think supplies are checked when unpacking the sent stuff…GOOD thing they did notice before your knee was cut open..EEEKKKK
GOOD LUCK on the 12th!!!!!

Hi thank you, it’s a new orthopaedic Center that had only opened that week, I was the first patient my surgeon was operating on in this new centre, when they opened their surgical packs before my surgery that’s when they realised a key component was missing.
Good news is my new date 12th December has now changed to this Thursday 28th November as another patient had to cancel, so fingers crossed there will not be anymore problems.
I am now going through all the same anxieties that I had the first time, but at least I know what to expect this time.

Great news, @uklonglegs43! Only a few more days to wait.

I updated your thread title with the correct date.

We look forward to seeing you on the recovery side. Do be sure to come back and start a recovery thread once you are up to it!

You can't open the fully well wrapped sterile packs in advance!

So sorry about the postponed surgery. Like you Naproxen was the best anti inflammatory I found. I agree it was a game changer for me too.My surgeon allowed me to pretty much stay on it- although I know surgery protocols vary according to patient and surgeon. I carried on with it for about 4-5 months after my PKR. But it became more for my back than my knee as time wore on. Once I could exercise on all fours for my back I was able to stop it completely.
Good luck for 28th!

Best Wishes for tomorrow!
Fingers crossed it's for real this time!
Will be watching for you on the healing side. Hope to see you there soon!
