THR Right Hip Recovery Report

Today has been a bit rough. I seem to be a bit more sore today than I was the past two days. However it is not the bothersome pain that was plaguing me prior to surgery. That I'm grateful for!

:hi: First days are rough!
Different pain, but pain nonetheless.
Thankfully temporary though!

I do hope you are taking your meds on time and icing all you can.
This too shall pass! Big sympathy hugs and hoping today is a better day.

I just learned of the garbage bag trick a few days ago, and what a difference! Also, to get into our rather high bed (I have short legs as well) I’ve developed a sling like thing out of a towel, sit on the garbage bag, tuck the towel under my knee.thigh so I can grab both ends, and rotate up and into bed while lifting my leg into position. For the most part, it isn’t too uncomfortable. I’m hoping this week (2nd week post op) I’ll be able to lift the leg without the sling. I have no real strength in my left shoulder, so I’m limited in that regard. That’s probably my next surgery, but one thing at a time. Hope today is comfortable for you.

Sorry you had a bit of a rough day yesterday. I hope today feels brighter
The ups and downs of recovery, fun times....wouldn't wish it on anyone, lol.
You're doing well at less than a week post op. Keep it up!
Hugs

Good news!!! Today feels like the first day on the actual road to recovery! :happydance:I refer to yesterday as my time-out-for-woe-is-me day. Got that behind me and we're moving on. I'm following a time schedule for my meds and icing religiously. Words of encouragement here are helpful too.:loveshwr:

Atkinson8 I'm using an aid to help lift my leg also. It's one of my husband's belts that I loop around the instep area of my foot. I pull up on the strap part of the belt to raise my leg so I can swing it over onto the bed.

Sansabosa, thank you. And I see that you are scheduled for a LTHR revision in less than a week. My best to you.

The belt strap is a genius idea!! I just used my non-operative leg to support the other one (underneath), but the belt strap sounds more foolproof. Congrats on your road to recovery!! You're probably turning the corner now. The first 4 or so days were the worst for me, and then things steadily improved.

Hi otisbeagle. I bet you would have liked the belt strap. I was using my non-op leg to lift and support the op-leg too. The belt is way easier. And yes, the road to recovery is here now

:hi:One week since all this fun began..:umm:
All temporary and well worth the recovery struggles.
Keep all slow...it will really make things go faster.
Healing hugs :console2:

One week down, heading into week two of recovery. I took one Mobic and one tramadol this morning, nothing since. I'm thankful to be doing well without them now. (I mainly stopped the tramadol due to very unpleasant constipation issues...now resolved.) I also realized I hadn't taken a nap today but maybe tomorrow I'll play catch up. :sleeep:
The 16 steps from the main part of the house to the family room haven't been a problem. However due having an over active bladder it will be a good day when I can walk faster to get to the bathroom.

So many on the forum have been an inspiration to me I'm trying to give back. Others have written about the ups and downs while in recovery. That information has been very helpful in that I don't get down in the dumps in occasional rough times.

That being said last night was rough. I couldn't sleep due to sinus drainage causing coughing jags. Then had to get up every hour and a half to two hours to get to the bathroom. I'm on antibiotics for a UTI...hope that is what's going on and the bathroom trips slow down. Climbing in and out of bed all night stinks!

Overall though a groggy, slow morning was much improved after a short nap and a refreshing shower. We had Christmas guests over so hopefully I'm tired out and blissful sleep will take over for at least most of tonight.

Hi :hi: Happy Monday!
I hope today feels brighter:SUNsmile:
You're only 10 days out and it seems you're doing well.
I hope you have a peaceful day and a relaxing week!
@Lola's Mom

Hope your hip is improving, and also your UTI. Having had four gazillion UTIs, I feel for you. They’re apparently common after catheterization. If you can take Uristat or one of the other over-the-counter meds, it will ease the sense of urgency overnight. (My apologies if you already know about this).

Thanks otisbeagle. I will try Uristat as I didn't know about it.

I'm so pleased with my recovery and thankful that it's going so well. Yesterday I took a walk through our backyard just looking things over enjoying the fresh air. Returning to the house I realized it was the first time in forever that strolling in the yard was a totally painless experience. When I was sharing my delight with my husband I was moved to tears!

Aww, Lola's Mom....isn't it wonderful how life changing this surgery is?
I had one of those moments the first time I drove post op and got out of my vehicle.
Pre-op I had to place the palm of my hand underneath my thigh and slowly lower my leg to get into a standing position. Trying to get out of my vehicle without doing so caused me to experience the worst pain I'd ever have. First time I realized it was truly gone....I cried happy tears, tears of gratitude and I thanked the dear Lord for this second chance.

We're blessed this surgery is available to us. In the not so distant past, many of us may have ended up in wheelchairs. Sobering thought.

I hope you have a wonderful end to your week and a very Merry Christmas!
@Lola's Mom
:merry christmas:

:chuckmarch:oh yeah!
You'll be doing this soon!
(Well, not real soon...but eventually)
So happy for you and I am also ever so grateful to face life with new hips.

Hope you have a wonderful holiday!:dancing:
