Woken up today in the worst pain so far :(

Went to the toilet and just couldn't stop crying, I've not felt pain like this before :(

Had some morphine and went back to sleep, have since had more morphine and paracetamol and I'm feeling better but dreading having to stand back up again!

Day 2 post op not a good start to the day, I could be going home today but I don't know right now...

Sounds like you are under medicated. Try and stay ahead of the pain at this stage. If staff aren't bringing you your medication raise the issue with the ward manager. Worry not - it does get better.

Do ask them to check your meds . Day 2 was horrible for me as well. It did settle down but only after I got ahead of the pain with the meds.

Meds have been amended slightly, I'm also feeling a lot better now I've moved around a bit more and I've had a shower. Had an x-ray this morning too!

Wow...great bionic looking hip!
Nice modesty addition too:giggle:

You will soon begin to feel human again.
I was never asked about ice at hospital and I too was nervous how I would manage at home.
Actually, I cried when they said they were kicking me out.
A very sweet nurse console me and said "Baby, you will be able to get much more comfortable at home...and get your meds on time, and be able to relax."
And I could ice:ice:
I was doubtful but she was right.
I managed with my walker to the bathroom, and short trips, etc.
It's good to get easier day by day!

Woken up this morning in a lot less pain than yesterday, had a good sleep too!

Only problem is this bloody leg still won't move properly, walking it's fine but I can't pull my knee upwards or push my leg out to the side without help, the muscles just can't seem to engage enough. I will keep trying though, think I'll go for a little wander through the ward to loosen things up!

Good morning, Glad to see you are up and about. Just wanted to let you know that I am thinking of you

The ‘wooden leg’ lasts for a little while until the muscles settle down & they will!
Sounds like you are doing amazingly well already...keep up the good work.

I'm going home at 1! So happy, the physio was really happy with me going up and down the stairs and it feels like everything has just clicked into place and I can now move my leg up and down and side to side!

Wound is looking angry now the bruising has come out and is a bit sore but I'm on top of my pain meds so nothing I can't handle :)

Congrats on going home! It's so much more comfy and relaxing to be in your own space without the
constant interruptions of the hospital. I hope getting into the car for the ride home and getting into the house went well. Depending upon your situation, drive time, navigating stairs at home etc, it can be tiring.
Hopefully your pain is well managed and you're resting comfortably.
A great first week home to you. Thanks for updating!

Got home fine yesterday, didn't find the stairs an issue which was good!

I ended up sleeping all evening and all night, it was lovely to sleep in my own bed without a nurse waking me up at 2am to do my blood pressure! I wasn't too stiff this morning, I've found if I move my leg around every time I wake up it eases the log leg a bit and makes things a bit easier. Started my day with only paracetamol and ibuprofen so feeling good :)

Really hoping I can wash my hair today!

Don't ease off your pain meds too quickly. As you get more mobile you may need them.

Do you have someone at home who can be on "stand by" when you are showering? A shower stool is also helpful.

I'm taking the pain meds I was prescribed, the codeine was making me feel sick so I'm only taking that if I need it but I also have my morphine handy too!

My boyfriend is going to be helping me shower, too scared to try anything like that alone!

Good plan! You may not need any help at all. But it's good to have someone within shouting distance in case you need anything. Enjoy that first shower post op - it's amazing!

It will make you feel so much better having the shower and clean hair. Glad you have someone to help you with it.. I still use my shower stool as love sitting there having the water cascading down - although I am now perfectly capable of standing up!

It feels so amazing to be clean! I didn't have a stool so i stood, but it was fine, boyfriend stood outside handing me all my bits and then helped me out safely :)

My left hip is getting aggravated now, I wondered when that would come. It's being replaced as soon as I recover but it is going to have to wait!

Set up in my armchair and quite happy, it's mad how different you feel being at home :)

First showers are the best. You're wise to have someone close by. My hubs stayed within earshot as I felt wobbly
for my first one, even took my walker in for support, lol.

I'm sorry to hear your other hip is acting up so soon. Posssibly you're unconsciously doing some favoring of the op leg and the other is complaining. Hopefully it dies down.

Stay in touch and have a great Monday!
