Bilateral TKR Recovery Diary

HAH.......I say claim all three, why not, we'll probably never meet in person........hah, in other words, I have J-Lo's legs, better looking than her too and yet I recover from surgery's like those stars do after having a baby.......

(ok, maybe that is stretching it. but............I do say you are Da- Man that can type on day of surgery..........

:hysterical: You guys crack me up!!!! I'm sitting here in a room all alone just laughing like crazy!! Even the dog is looking at me like I'm a loon....

Week 11

The snow has cleared and the pavement is clear so I can walk (note: US citizens read 'sidewalk' for 'pavement' lest you think I'm walking in the middle of the carriageway) did a bit over a mile today, no ill effects even though I've not walked for a week. Cool.

Today put on my proper shoes for the bike. Only rode for a minute or so on the static machine (didn't want to do two things after walking earlier on). Absolutely no bother clicking in or, more importantly, clicking out with that twisting motion we all know.

Proper session, but just a few minutes, tomorrow if all is well, i.e. no swelling.

Good! I thought I was unobservant when I noticed the Super Moderator designation under Roy's name this morning. Phew! It's relatively new! Congrats, Roy!

Me too :secretaea: Congratulations, Roy - you deserve it :thumb:

Week 11

Yesterday walked to my local curry parlour, perhaps a bit less than 1/2 mile downhill from my house. Had a fine meal and copious quantities of Recovery Juice (Cabernet Sauvignon in this case) with my wife and another old friend. On setting out home I was out of the door first and set off up the hill brandishing my walking stick over my head and crying out "Come along you two, do try to keep up!" :hysterical:

I fully expected Major Repercussions today, but it looks like I got away with it. No extra stiffness or pain.

God, Roy, you are wonderful! :loll: What a picture that made in my mind---and how it just makes me smile inside and laugh on the outside.

I could use some of that Recovery Juice myself. Might have to pick some up.:cheers_wine:

And just to satisfy my curiosity---what does "mess up" mean? Being a Yank may be why I don't get this.

You just made my day. :cat-kittyandsmiley:Judy

It's an American expression, allegedly. mess up, means 'fouled up beyond all recognition'. Well, just about. Sometimes the first word is spelt and pronounced slightly differently. See also mess up, 'situation normal, all fouled up'.

Week 11

Time to carpe that diem, grab the bull by the wossnames, stand up for truth and justice, smite the wicked, make decisions, take action, all that stuff, so I finally got the bike out of the cellar...

...and stuck it on the static trainer in my sitting room (it's my winter bike, an Enigma "Etape").

Did about 20 minutes in total I suppose, in between lots of jumping off and on to adjust the shoe plates to keep my feet straight. Having shoe plates properly aligned is essential to avoid knee pain with biological knees, goodness knows if it makes any difference with metal and plastic but it sure seems reasonable that it should.

A bit of sweating on the bike for the first time since October last, and even that was the only ride that month.

And another thing, those of you that know their cycling will have sympathy with me, I was only gone a couple of minutes and some burglar broke into my house and left a huge bag of spuds on my bike, cheeky basket, as you see:

Week 12

Red Letter Day
(maybe...)*

Went out on my bike, on the road, for the first time since October 2011. Managed a whole 4 miles the last 3/4 mile uphill to my house at walking pace. BUT I was out there, frabjous day.

*don't know how my knees'll react yet -- hoping they won't tell me off.

WOW!!! Way to take a big step---or a big ride---toward a completely active and normal life!

"'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
All mimsy were the borogoves,
And the mome raths outgrabe...."

My sincerest apologies to Lewis Carroll---I have used this poem many times in teaching Oral Interpretation of Literature.

Just been to see Mr Ireland for my 3-months check up, he seems to think things are going OK. Extension/ROM at 2/130 (right), 0/135 (left), both improvements over the 6-week check. I'm pleased to report that as I've been doing the extension/ROM exercises I've pictured in my sig, so it's just as well they actually work.

-----------------------

What a day! February, sunshine and not cool, it's actually warm outside! Few chores then off on me bike, no bother!

Today, 6 miles. 50% increase, can't be bad :th_heehee: No bad effects from my 4 miles Tuesday in terms of swelling or anything, just to see how it goes tomorrow.

Much easier up the final 0.7 mile hill, too, my computer wasn't continuously saying 'Auto paused' which it only does when I'm going so slowly it thinks I've stopped.

Roy,Sounds awesome to me!! Here in southern New Jersey, we are suppose to have 60' weather!! I am 2 weeks behind you, and a wee bit jealous!!
