Day 1 Postop:
I apologize for the typos in my previous update as it was typed on my phone.
First I want to say all of the MD, nursing, tech, PT and house keeping staff at this facility were awesome. I hd a spinal and was allowed to choose to not have a catheter, in so wound up using a bedpan a couple of times over night, which was an odd experience to say the least. Sleepy bladder combined with the unusual nature of using a bed pan, took a little getting used to.
Got Meds on time every time, got breakfast, and a shower ending with real clothes. Saw PT and walked down the hall and back, no troubles was now able to go to the real bathroom to pee!
Say the OS on his morning rounds and he told me I could go home if I chose to today. Decided I would wait until after 2nd PT interaction to choose. I also got a quick visit from his PA to check how I was doing.
Finally talked my husband into leaving for a bit to shower and get breakfast. Had a short visit from My parents. Enjoyed a nice lunch. Called the nurses station as it was time for PT, and they told me since it was in the gym directly across from my room I could walk there my self if I felt up to it, so I did. So I walked in and the PT guy said your surgeon was Dr. Kurtz right? Then he says the way you are walked in says you are ready to go. Did the basic bed PT, ankle pumps, knee squeezes, thigh/buttocks squeezes, leg lift with a roller under the knee, and the leg out to the side slides. The last two are rather painful. PT verified I could get into the car, the bath using a shower chair, and could climb a couple of stairs, then he said, jokingly that I should go home and not waste anymore of his time cause I just did in 3 minutes what some do in 3 days... So Yeah, I got booted out of PT.
I returned to my room an contact the nurse's desk to get my paperwork started to go home. We left around 2:15.
Total hospital time 28 hours 15 minutes
I left with a prescription for Oxymoron 7.5 taking 1 every 4 hours. Can take 2 if needed for pain.
Aspirin and Pepcid twice a day for blood thinner.
No restrictions other than pain level.
Pain at its worst so far has bee 3 1/2 - 4 during PT.
It has been up to a 5 after napping and getting up to pee right before taking more pain meds.
I am doing my best to stay ahead of the pain. I got a Pill Monitor App for my phone and just realized the volume was off on the notices, fixed that so I should stay on track.
OK time for more sleep.
Hope every one is doing well out there. Thanks so much for stopping by with the kind and encouraging words.
@belweav Good luck I think you are next. See you over here soon.
Journey on!

WOW!!!! You make THR sound like a breeze!!! So thrilled for you, @MommaCatt!!! I bet you're so happy to be home, though it sounds like you did an outstandingly great job for those brief 28 hours you were hospitalized!!! Rest well - those of us about to move over here to recovery are watching your progress and finding lots of hope!!!!
:loveshwr:

I am enjoying being home, mostly napping in my recliner. My little helper just got here so we are going to watch movies and wait for her aunt to bring us dinner. We are borrowing one of the 10 year grandmonsters to be my runner while my husband is working, he is only in the other room, but it will be nice not to have to bother him for things.
Journey on!

@MommaCatt - so glad you have the surgery behind you and that you are home. Don't forget the BoneSmart mantras, including the usefulness of ice.

The days and weeks ahead will be filled with some ups and downs (as life tends to be), but keep in mind the bigger picture and as much as possible, just roll with it. Things get better along the journey!

Blessings to you for healing and comfort!

@Sommers16 thank you for the reminders and kind words. I have followed your progress and have really enjoyed reading your recovery thread as well.

Day 2 Post Op:
Ice and pain meds are the words of the day. The swelling is crazy. The thigh is huge. Pain is around a 3 sitting here it shoots to a 5 or more while trying to stand. Then mostly ok while standing and walking. Still using the walker not heavily leaning in it but using it for balance and to carry stuff.
Passed the poop milestone! Pun intended. Hope things stay regular. Using smooth move tea, prune juice and one dose of Dulcolax. So spent the day mostly sleeping, icing, and elevating. My husband fixed me a nice breakfast and my youngest daughter dropped by with dinner.
Journey on my friends. @belweav stay strong lots of good healing vibes and positive thoughts following you to the OR tomorrow. See you in the other side.

@MommaCatt Did you say STILL using the walker it has only been two days:). ( just kidding I know what you meant). I hope your itching subsides if it doesn't I think I saw in another post that you can get medicine to make it stop but, I could be mistaken. Your pun was pretty funny..I am not gonna lie it took me a minute but, then I was like oh my bahahaha!
Smooth move tea huh I will keep that in mind for after my surgery. Thanks for that tip.
Hope you get lots of rest and your pain is minimal. Good vibes coming your way!

Post op day 3 & 4:
Things are a bit of a blur over here. Rest, elevate, ice, pain meds, walk, eat, sleep...repeat.
Cut back on my 24/7 ice usage was keeping my leg too cold. Need to add another towel layer I guess.
My little helper went back home today she had to attend a birthday party. We had a nice slumber party for a couple of nights.
Things to note: Log leg is very real as is the beach towel stuffed leg description (thanks @Cynthia777 ) for the term. I am sure I would be very freaked out at the size of my thigh if I hadn't read about this in others recovery threads.
If you make homemade water/alcohol ice bags be sure to double bag them.

My highlight of the day was switching to the cane while doing my laps today. I will still use the walker to transport things but mostly using the cane for bathroom trips and my mandatory laps around the living room, dining room, kitchen track.
Journey on stay strong.

@MommaCatt
Sounds like you are managing everything outstandingly!!!! Keep up the great recovery!!!!!
Thanks for the reminder about the "log leg" - I'll be expecting it!!! (How soon did that sensation start?)

Leg is still a bit numb along the outer edge. I am guessing a combination of the procedure and the swelling.
