[Psoas Tendon Release] Psoas Impingement After THR

For me, it was a sharp stabbing pain in the groin when I lifted the leg or pushed off on it. It also developed into a constant burning pain in the same area with stabbing pain on any activity. It started mild and just got worse over time.

Other people may have a different experience, though.
When you say you had a sharp stabbing pain in the groin when you lifted your leg, was it the case when you walked upstairs, and also, what was the burning pain like? And when you say stabbing pain with any activity what activity caused the stabbing pain?

@sfield27 Yes, it is still early days. Even though I had a complete release, my leg was sore and I had an adjustment period to my new normal. Continue that ice and try not to aggravate that healing tendon by doing anything that stresses it right now. It will take it a bit to calm down. Baby it for a bit longer. Again, it's the slow and steady that win the race. I am hoping and praying that this one "does the trick." Keep us posted.

Hip4life, thanks for sharing that advice. I handled the surgery exceptionally well and walked out of the hospital with my crutches, but I could have done it without them. I have plenty of stability but lots of pain and limited movement. I will give it lots of rest and ice; poor old Psoas tendon is just trying to do its job!

@sfield27 it would be interesting to know how much of a overhang there is. The CT scan should say that.

I am just reporting that after one month, I can deadlift my from a straight leg position without pain. First time since January, which I am excited about. I also have no pain at rest after more than 300 days. More resting, and then I need to start moving and walking to get back some normal gait. Things are looking up!

Wonderful to read this, @sfield27! You've been on such a long journey with this recovery and I'm glad you are seeing light at the end of the tunnel.

Slow and steady as you start moving and walking; you will find your gait again with time.

Sending hugs :console2:

So glad you are doing well and rid of the pain.
Onward and Upward:egypdance:

Just catching up and so happy to read about the progress. Great news.

I'm just reading this and seeing how you are feeling. I am going back and fourth on doing a psoas release.

@RPDX24 Just want to let you know that @Anon has not been on the forum in more than 18 months, so she is unlikely to see your post. I have tagged her, though, just in case.

A tip: if you want to get a specific member's attention, be sure to add the @ sign immediately before their user name (as I did with yours above).

Sharing all this information. I have had pain and issues with my Psoas tendon as well but my surgeon believes it's ruptured. I wonder if getting a second opinion be something I need to look at.

It’s never a bad idea to get additional opinions …. especially if surgery is being considered. I’d go for it.

Thank you so much for the support on that. The pain has been horrendous, and my current surgeon made it sound like nothing could make it better.

@PolarIce I'm sorry you are still experiencing so much pain. Definitely get a second opinion. You might want to try a sports medicine ortho specialist. I learned with my non-op hip tendon repair that sports medicine docs are more willing to evaluate and treat those kinds of issues. I was turned away by one group of othopods saying nothing could be done. That being said, I also learned that tendon repairs are not nearly as successful as THR's and that docs might be very selective on whom they choose to operate on. I think it is definitely worth the try, though. It really wears on you mentally to deal with that kind of ongoing pain and subsequent limitations

@RPDX24 I'm sorry to say that @Anon has not been back on the forum since February 2024, so you are still unlikely to get a reply from her.
