THR Psoas Tendinitis 9 months after THR

Hi @alexthecat I know that one of the physios at the hospital now runs a number of Pilates classes so I will ask my own physio if she feels it would be ok for me to take it up now.Last time I asked she told me that it was too early.I must say that it would be wonderful to do a "normal " class again.

@dede62 I remember trying that stretch a while back but it was very uncomfortable so as I was told to stop anything that increases pain I did. However I tried it this morning and it was ok so I guess I must be improving but slowly. Thanks for reminding me.

@calikat Those comments from your OS about trying to live with it seem very harsh. You say that you are better for having the replacement which is good but are you noticing any recent improvement since they diagnosed the problem. If not a revision is worth considering but of course it is not something any of us would relish.Have you found anything which helps you ?

Kim, that's exactly what I was hoping you would say! I know a few physiotherapy clinics here that offer Pilates classes. I didn't know if that was available where you live. Since it is, that sounds perfect... as long as your own physio agrees, of course.

Hi Kim. It really has not improved much for the past 3 months. It seems my hip has progressed to where it is going to be. NSAIDS and tramadol help. Part of the problem is that any I rotating movement in my hip causes something to rub against something. I guess the cup is hitting something? It feels like a twang of a rubber band? It's difficult to describe, but I can feel it catch on something and then the pain radiates around my hip socket and down my leg. The constant irritation just makes my hip ache deep in the socket. I cannot palpitate the pain. I have continued PT since the surgery (I am spending a fortune), but now I go once a week. She works on stretching the hip capsule and does deep tissue work all around my hip. It seems to help a bit, but it does not last.

Hi @calikat I am so sorry to hear that you have not seen any improvement in the the past three months.I think if it was me I would be seriously thinking about a revision.Does the surgeon who performed the op have an obligation to do the revision free of charge which to me seems only fair ? I hear what you are saying about being in a lot less pain than you were before the surgery but you still need regular pain killers. Are you fully functional day to day with your medication ? Thinking of you.
Kim

LOL! Kim I don't think they would do it for free even if I was willing to go back to the same doctor! Yes I am pretty functional, although never pain free in my hip.

I take your point @calikat that you don't want to go back to the same doctor but it doesn't seem right that you have to pay twice. I don't remember my surgeon telling me about the risk of a misaligned cup or tendinitis just warnings about possible infection, blood clots and temporary nerve damage. Its a good thing that you are fully functional and able to work but it's not good that your hip is always in pain.Do you sleep ok at night ?

@calikat if the pain is stopping you sleeping then I would consider the revision as lack of sleep will interfere with your general health

@calikat hi, I was reading your story. I am having a snapping in my hip when I am walking, like the components are hitting each other or a tendon is rubbing. This happens on every step forward I take with my operated leg. This is not painful really, just very annoying. I don't get the aching in the joint that you are experiencing. But, I am having significant pain in my thigh that does not get better with rest and seems to be getting worse. It has become difficult to bear weight and I am back on my cane and pain meds. I don't know if that pain could be related to the snapping I feel. Anyway, I wondered if you had pain like that? Did your OS confirm that the cup was misaligned? I am seeing my OS this coming week. I am nervous that something is wrong. Hope you are feeling a little better.

@Kim22 I seem to have sabotaged your thread with my question to calikat. I didn't realize it when I posted. I'm sorry!

@Dmcfad2 I don't mind at all that you are communicating with Calikat on my thread.I think it is very beneficial for us to all to support each other and to share our experiences.Sorry to hear that you are having problems with your operated hip and I hope you get some answers from your OS.Please let us-know what he says.

Hmmm. @Dmcfad2 That sounds different from what I am experiencing. Hopefully your OS can offer some insight. Let us know what he/she says. And yes the misalignment was confirmed by a CT scan and two different OS opinions.

I don't really have pain in my thigh, although I of course had deep thigh pain the several months after surgery. I think that has something to do with them pounding a steel post into my femoral bone! LOL. But that pain continued to lessen as time when on. It is the actual hip socket that continues to bother me. My leg position just feels off. It is difficult to describe. I do feel pain when I walk although I have more non weight bearing pain than weight bearing...hence the problem with sleeping. Any rotating movements of my leg causes discomfort. And my hip always aches deep inside the joint. It always feels irritated if that makes sense. Sitting is also uncomfortable...more so than walking.

Hi all I went to the hospital this morning for the long awaited cortisone injection but didn't need it as the ultrasound showed that the inflamed area ( the part where the iliopsoas tendon inserts into the lesser trochanter) is so much better.so it just goes to show that the body will heal itself if given enough time.On this occasion the long NHS waiting times have done me a big favour but of course I didn't see it this way when I was first referred.I was so relieved not to have it as although rare, there is a risk of tendon rupture and infection of course.the Radiologist was lovely and he said that if the symptons return he would fast track me for the injection which was very reassuring.I still have a bit of discomfort in the groin and front thigh but As it is so much better I can live with it and with a bit of luck that will also improve with time.

Yay Kim, that's great news! Sounds like you have some folks looking out for your best interest, just in case you need it. Let's hope it continues to improve and you can get back to a bit more than just walking. Take care, friend!
:yay: :loveshwr:

The same. I have a follow up with the new OS tomorrow to talk about things in more detail. Like you, I am hesitant to do anything because I don't want to make my situation worse, but I am disappointed in my outcome.

@Kim22 wow what a surprise ending to your saga! I am very glad the tendinitis is resolving itself, you give me hope! And not having to have that potentially damaging injection-- wonderful! Time to get on with life :)

My phone sent this using BoneSmart Forum, good phone!
