Post-op day 3....

Hi Idahomom
I've had no PT at all and seem to be making good progress without it. My OS believes walking to be the best way to recovery so that's what I've done along with some of the exercises Jo recommended. Glad to hear how well you're doing. I had a tight feeling across the top of my leg for weeks especially if I'd overdone things but regular icing helped. I felt I'd reached a plateau at weeks 9 to 11 which I found a bit dispiriting then by 12 weeks suddenly seemed to take off again and touch wood I'm batting around like a good 'un!
Remember the mantra, rest, ice, elevate!
All the best :thumb:

Hi Idahomom, your recovery is amazing. My 'tightness' (not pain) in the groin lasted until 1 week ago. But then my recovery took longer, and I am now able to stretch better, and my stride while walking is getting better. Just be patient, and don't it. Keep up the good work.

I'm so happy to read that you, Jo, and Beesquare all agree that walking is pretty much the best exericise after hip surgeries. The PT that I went to after my 2nd surgery and I became friends and just yesterday she was telling me that I should come in for some PT....I told her that I feel that walking has helped me more then PT ever did in the past...and that it has helped my glutes so much....but she kept trying to convince me otherwise...and said it doesn't help build muscles in the glutes as much as the PT exercises do.

All I know for sure is that walking is helping me so much ...It feels like I'm using every muscle in my rear, and in my thigh as long as I really concentrate in walking straight, and try not to limp at all.

Since my OS has forbidden me to do any ROM exercises, I'm pleased to feel like all my walking seems to be helping me a lot...:)

I can't agree more! I was not able to walk for so long after my THR, fracture and revision, that I know it really set me way back in recovery. By the time I was able to bear weight, things were healing the wrong way and muscles were never able to build properly.

I can't stress enough the importance of walking after a THR. Build up gradually though, don't push for distance. Just walk, walk, walk!

It's not 'tightness', it's post-op pain, Idaho. How much Tylenol do you take at a time? How many mgs?

Hmmm, maybe Jo is right? I do keep forgetting that you are only about 10 days out from your surgery.

Additionally, in my situation my leg length was extended by about 1/2" which created tightness in my groin on the operated side as it was stretched a bit.

My OS doesn't prescribe PT for hips either, but I asked for it. Good luck on Monday!

Take care,
Cardie

I saw my OS today for my 2-week post-op. He has no concerns at all. The tightness I feel is normal. The measurements he's concerned about he says are right on and the LLD I feel most likely will even out in a few months. He gave me a 5/16" lift to use while I transition. Here's my x-ray (if I have uploaded right).

You both look really happy!

Good progress

Nice hip, Idaho, though I had to reduce the size a tad
