THR Petrified

Thank you so very much. I believe I will run over to the drug store and grab some now just to be safe. For nine and a half months I was only on pain medication for the first week after my surgery and it was just 5 mg and they haven't gave me anything since even with all the pain I've been in and them even knowing that my placement is loose. I am so Praying that I will be able to sleep. Between pain and insomnia it can drive you mental. I have been able to get some relief pain wise it doesn't take half of it away but enough to be able to function and do my daily things around the apartment I need to do. For that I am so very grateful.

A word of caution about the use of any stimulant….you should not use it for more than a week without your doctor’s approval. These products need to be reserved for those times when you are actually experiencing constipation and want to initiate a bowel movement quickly.

Even natural stimulants like senna can cause your bowels to become dependent on it. This is why we recommend stool softeners with no stimulants in them at all. These products like Metamucil, Colace, or Citrucel are the ones you need for use that extends for weeks or longer. If you’re on pain medications for longer than a week or so, please stick with the non-stimulant products. You can also increase your intake of fiber with prunes (they have some great flavored ones that are really good) or prune juice.

They've already had me on something called linzess for my chronic constipation that I've always had. Do you think I will need to take anything else now that they had me on pain relief medication?

You may. Since you’re taking Linzess, you need to talk with your GP about adding stool softner capsules like Colace or the powder MiraLAX that you mix with water or juice to be sure you don’t have problems. It’s best to be proactive in these situations, so I’d give your GP a call on Monday morning and as for advice. If you are regular and not experiencing any abdominal discomfort on the Linzess, you want to keep things that way. It’s more difficult to correct a problem once it gets started.

Are the pain medications helping you?

Yes I will call her Monday and they are helping me some they're not taking all the pain away but enough for me to be able to do my daily activities here in my apartment. I did sleep three and a half hours last night that's the most I've slept in nine and a half months. So I am grateful for that but they do make me sick at my stomach when I take them even if I eat so I picked up some nausea medication. It seems to help. I just can't understand why they didn't help me sooner instead of letting me suffer the way I was. Don't get me wrong I'm still suffering but it's nothing compared to what I was going through. I felt like I was literally losing my mental stability from the pain.

I don't know if this'll help you - I take Voltaren (diclofenac) NSAID for pain and I take the proton pump inhibiter Omeprazole along with it to stop any impact on my stomach.
