Hi, did you weight bare straight away or were you bed bound for a wile? How is your progress coming along?
I wasn't bed-bound after coming home from my surgery, but I wasn't able to do much of anything for a few weeks. Nearly everything was difficult and I was in a lot of pain. About 6 weeks after my surgery, my surgeon told me that I should begin bearing full weight (as tolerated). I didn't/wasn't able to do that initially. I had to buy a cane, which I still use for walking longer distances. If I am just walking about the house, I don't use it. It took several weeks before I could actually bear full weight on my leg. I still have pain and discomfort, but it's certainly not as excruciating as it had been several weeks ago. The pain is now pretty manageable - but, it's still there. I expect it'll be there for some time.
It sounds as though you are just going through the healing process. You'll have a bit of pain for some time, I imagine. We often don't realize how major a hip fracture is. And the surgery is pretty invasive. Plus, the new hardware added. Try to not rush it. For now, it seems as though you're doing really well.
Cheers,
Eivar
Happy Tuesday!
