MajorHeidi, I well remember sitting in a chair, leaning over and tying my shoes ... ah,the good old days! Probably foot on the knee will be the norm with my splayed out leg. When I sit down, it falls far to the right and trying to get it to the midline like the other leg is just about impossible. As time goes by, somehow I will make the shoes/socks thing work. Right now I wear slip on shoes around the house. My husband ties my shoes when we go out.
Sharonslp, you are so right about taking a cane or such when in a crowded place. We went to the Amish market yesterday and it was packed. I immediately wished I had brought my cane. I am going to heed your advice next time I go shopping.
FionaW, glad to read you are progressing. My PT assessment also was that the splayed leg is a muscular problem as you said in your last post in this thread (I couldn't expect the PT to say the doc screwed up when they work for the same organization.) My exercises seem to be hip/knee basics. Nothing to strengthen the glutes ... have to look that up to see what I can find to do at home. Right now I am finding that there is more pain associated with the exercises so I am going to take a few days off to see if things calm down. I do have a sock puller but it does not work well with the quarter socks I wear in hot weather. The grabber is some help though.
Josephine, I probably should get a second opinion but not sure if any doc in this area would say anything negative about another's work. And even if I found out the the implant was not in the right position, the correction would most likely be more surgery would it not? Can't even think of going through this again so soon. Maybe in few months I will feel differently if my slow heel to toe walking does not pay dividends.
