I was so looking forward to a walk on a new neighborhood trail tomorrow
I've been walking holding my distance at half a mile. Except for last Saturday at a craft show knee didn't seem to mind

Anything new can bring on different pain. This recovery can be an up and down rollercoaster ride, you're experiencing a down right now. Standing for an extended period of a time and beginning extension stretches have your knee complaining. You put the work into today, sit back now and give directions to everyone else while you pamper that new knee.

The back of the knee doesn't hurt.
Anterior medial. Front inside. It's stabbing comes and goes in waves

It's just like the bone on bone pain I had.

I'm sorry you're experiencing this pain right now. You probably aggravated the soft tissue. Take a couple down days to let your knee recover. I never had pain behind my knee after TKR surgery, all my pain was in the front just under the knee cap area. Don't try to push through the pain, because chances are your knee will push right back.

Much better. But I still get up at three am! I have to per and the stiffness keeps me from getting back to sleep till the Tylenol takes effect
Worse the family is here! They are on a midnight to sleep 9 am to rise.
And here I am faded at 8 up at 3 dozing till six
Their breakfast was my lunch!
Not so swollen. I think I was doing quad sets 400 times a day. Not consciously but in the back of my mind the little OS voice. Work on extension.
Too much for sure is no gain

Yes, maam, you are so right! I'm one of those that are up and down all night, too.
The major peeing starts at night, for some reason! Just while you're walking you are working on your extension. At least my roommate is still working, so I can sleep when I need to. Your knee is an infant and I bet your family wouldn't mind you going to your room for a nap. Even just a short one would help!

If you're super tired you'll do what I did three years ago Christmas, fall asleep with family all around. But I'm happy to hear the pain has diminished a bit. It looks like you're a member of the ODIC.

ODIC. Been in that club awhile. Feel so much better today I went to work on stairs.
One set was so much fun up and down. Why not three?:loll:

Littleredcanoe - I decided today was the day I worked on stairs too! I already do 7 or 8 sets a day, but today I tried a set using my knee like a real knee, instead of leading with the good leg. One set was enough of that!!!!

I've had to deal with stairs from day one but about at week 4 found I could advance with bad knee first without pain. 1 step first day. 2 second day. Held level several days. Now almost doing 14 steps reciprocally without hanging off of railing
No not doing a secon step of 14 today
Also now can get up off 14.5 inch high toilet without push off. That too is an evolution

I think that is what real life PT is

That is real life PT and you are doing great! Keep up the good work!

More real life PT. Over the last three days of sloth and gluttony the swelling went down. The ROM matches the other knee that is good and not of need of fixing.
This was all due to the ministrations of Drs Recliner and Ice and Rest
So I went for a one mile hike in the woods. Over three stone walls.
New soft trail. It felt odd to go downhill and so powerful to go up

I'm now back in the 3 doctors care. I'll have more swelling and temporary decreased ROM
Tomorrow. When I see the normal PT . HA.
Probably not going to happen. I like my in the woods PT better
But am unsure how to cancel with grace. After 7 weeks of PT I am sick of it

You certainly joined the ODIC with that walk! Your knee let you know it, too.
I'm gladyou're going to rest up to recover from it.

I guess we all tested our limits now and then, by doing a bit too much.

Just tell PT that you are where you want to be, can do the exercises at home and don't need them anymore. They'll probably have a couple of comebacks, but it YOUR knee and YOUR money. You are in control, not them. They are employees of yours, not the other way. You are doing fantastic and hope you didn't overdo today. If so, you know what to do!

the funny thing is I am already doing their exercises at home! Without hiking.. Hiking does bring lateral stress on the knee, something my PT said "I'm not ready for". Why I don't know. Yes I did notice sidehills and rocks and maybe am not ready.. but with hiking poles, nothing at all hurt
The other thing in our recovery is that our confidence can suffer. I know I an wary of stairs. going over some rocks was a lot more interesting than PT hurdles and I gained confidence.
Mental is as important to me as physical at this point.

You are so right! The depression can really take hold of us, and being able to do something simple on our own chases those blues away! I have never for one minute regretted not having PT. Being able to rehab myself by myself has brought me peace of mind. Many on here go to PT just to get out of the house. But, I had no one to drive me and taking care of everything kept me busy anyway. The times of rest, icing and elevation were a wonderful relief. Of course, the first couple of weeks were really rough, but as my activity increased, so did my sense of accomplishment! You will do just fine without PT. Go, if you want to get out, but you don't need them physically. Keep enjoying those hikes, but be extra careful to not overdo or trip! Uneven ground is hard on a baby knee. You know what to do when you hurt! Just know that each week you will see improvement. It is a slow process but the end is there!

Today to the gym.. Felt good. 10 min on recumbent and also five on the elliptical 45 leg presses (3 x15 no added weight).. I think working up a minute every day on the elliptical is going to bring great gains. I have 15 steps to get into my house . ( there are two ways) one a standard stair with railing inside and the other outside and brick with no railing..

No soreness from Monday but still a little swollen..Going up reciprocally ..unsure of down . I lead with my good leg only near the bottom... Thats where I think the elliptical is handy to strengthen the quad. As long as it is happy to be strengthened that day.. Its boss.

Oh Ice Butler?

Going down stairs one foot at a time usually takes longer to achieve than going up stairs. That's because it puts more strain on your new knee. It will come, in time.
