bottomshollow I love the quote...sometimes the best thing you can do is not think..... I actually put my laptop away for awhile. I was thinking too much...researching, reading, google-ing to extreme. Sometimes it helps just to be quiet and listen to your heart.

Quee-Knee, I'm glad that things are looking up. I have a question though...why is a different doctor needed to take out the old hip replacement and put in a new one? Is it a trickier surgery? Does the surgeon need different credentials? Anyway, keep thinking good thoughts and petting your husband's dog. Bet the dog will be yours when this is all over.:puppysmooze: Gail

gailcoco A revision specialist is preferred because it is a more technical surgery and its best to .have a surgeon that is very skilled and to be skilled it takes lots of practice. My OS does do revisions but not nearly as frequently as I would like. And the dog has turned into my shadow....everywhere I go in the house and I mean everywhere....he is right there with me. :heehee:

Quee-Knee, It's so good just to hear from you. Glad your able to manage your pain and your energy is improving, that makes a big difference. I have been praying for you and I know your in good hands. The sun has been a nice treat here too.

Gentle Hugs,
Weezi

Quee-knee,
I am so sorry for all you have had to go through. I was feeling sorry for myself for not progressing at the pace I thought I should be ...but your story had made me see how very lucky I am. You are so young and have had so many surgeries!! This was my first ever and I went into it thinking it is no big thing! Even when things go smoothly..its a BIG thing!! You are in my thoughts and prayers and I hope things get better for you. You've been through enough! And I know what you mean about ignoring the mess. I live alone and after my sister left I had to overlook a lot...I had animals to look after and that was about all I could do! Just keep looking out the window and ignore the dust..and pet the dog once in a while!!! I don't know where in the US you live but it was in the 80's here yesterday and 70's today..wonderful for the spirit!

Queeknee hope your ok. Dogs seem to know when things are wrong. And the Internet sometimes gives us too much info. Lol

Hi Queeknee. You were so kind to come over to m thread and give me a shoulder. God knows I need it. I have read that there is good success in treating early infections. I am hopeful for you. Although I have not been told I have an infection, each day gets harder and I hav lost hope that I do not.

I was so ready for my hip replacement. I know several people, over a dozen who have had successful knee or hip replacements.
I had read your story within a day or so of your posting. I am glad that you connected with me. How have you been handling your PICC line abx. I am allergic to sulfa meds so worry since they seem to be used. In fact, I just don't handle most med very well.
I am or should say was, a cheerful happy person before all of this.
You will get through this. We are "young" and have that on our side.
My sister's husband calls her my queen. It's very sweet.

BarbieJ Well today is the big day....I get my PICC line out. Am anxious to start aqua therapy and actually take a complete shower without worries of getting my IV wet. Havent had a complete real shower for over 2 months!!!! Hey its the little things that I find joy in now! I am also allergic to sulfa, and thought I was allergic to Keflex...drug of choice ....but they did some further testing and I wasnt allergic after all...my allergy had surfaced when I was a kid.......so that was good news. I will be on oral Keflex and Rifampin for a very long time unless I decide to have a revision. I also was a happy cheerful person before all this.....and am doing my best to find that person again....I have learned to take nothing for granted and just how precious good health and good friends and family are. :)

Woo Hoo! Hip hip hooray! :dancy:
Hip hip hooray has a whole new meaning for us now doesn't it Quee-Knee!
What a big day to have your line out!,

How did you shower, could you sit on a shower stool and hose off with the Picc line covered up?
I won't be able to stand it. How did you wash your hair?
Is Keflex also called cephalexin? I have taken that before and ok, but it was only once.
That was good news for me to hear that you also have an allergy to sulfa and you are doing okay on your abx medications.

I need to get a walker with a seat on it. I live in a split level, which has been hard on me. I get up to my bedroom and stay put. I always wanted to move to a one story.
Are you walking with a cane yet? I have developed hand tendinitis or something from the cane.
Are they testing you every couple weeks?
I totally know what you mean about appreciating the things that matter so much more. Talking to my daughter and son on the phone is precious time for me more than ever.
My husband had hoped after my hip replacement to go on a real vacation this year. That's not happening now since I can barely walk. He has 5 more years until he retires. My son graduates from college in May. He is getting a degree in business. I am simply hoping that I can make it to his graduation.

Anyway, you have made it QueeKnee past a huge milestone. I do know a friend who had a knee replacement and an infection early on. She managed to beat it. Praying for you, my friend.

BarbieJ I am still using a walker and live in a 2 story house. Have considered getting another walker...one to keep upstairs and one to keep downstairs ......I use a cane for stairs. I saw a therapist today and he thought it is a reasonable goal to be off the walker (not rocker :heehee: although some days I wonder) in 4 weeks. Using a shower chair and hand held shower to keep my PICC line site dry...not quite the same as actually standing in shower...tomorrow will be the big day for that! I want to make sure the site is completely closed before I get it wet. I will continue to have my labs monitored every couple weeks. Keflex is a cephalsporin.
Do you have a handicapped sticker for your car....the arena where your son graduates will certainly have special accomodations for people with special needs....you might even get to sit up front! I hope you can do everything you can.....you dont want to miss graduation day. My son graduated a couple years ago and it was special time....and also a celebration for no longer writing checks to the university! Take care

I need to get a handicap sticker. Never got one nice I live in a suburb and lots of parking with no problems. Now that I have been hurting so much more and using a cane, I better call and see about getting one.

You had a knee replacement. You are brave. I feel like when i had my my hip replacement they jumbled all my organs around, I.e., bladder, colon because I have now nerve pain all around my pelvic floor One good thing about knees. They are far away from the pelvic floor.
How are they watching to keep your intestinal bacteria balanced?
With all of thos abx.

How is your left hip?
So do you guess that the hip went because you put more weigh and stress on the opposite side?

BarbieJ A handicap sticker has been a lifesaver for us....I have been able to go places and do things I wouldnt have been able to do without it. My OS signed the form for me, I took it to the drivers license office and they gave it to me on the spot with no charge.
For me there was a difference in knee pain and hip pain.....hip pain seemed to hurt deep into the core of my body....knee pain was more isolated....not to diminish the discomfort of either. Are you getting excited for you trip to Mayo.... When I heard your story, the first thing I thought was allergy of some sort even though blood work doesnt really support that idea and are you grinding your teeth at night....thats my unsolicited non professional opinion for what its worth. :) I will be thinking about you.
My infectious disease doctor does not think pro biotics really help with preventing intestinal problems....but has said they wont hurt. I think the best time to prevent problems is before antibiotics are started...If I remember right Poppet is the resident expert here on that subject.

Hello @ Quee-Knee I just read about your ordeal and I understand how difficult it has been for you. I'm so sorry that you went through all of this, but it sounds like you've beaten the worst part of it and are getting your energy back, too. Congratulations on having the PICC line out - that's big progress! You'll love that first real shower. What a blessing. I had complete bedrest with my daughter years ago and could only take a bed bath for months. It was very hard, so I know how much you'll appreciate scrubbing without worrying about getting that site wet.

Best of luck to you. Keep us all posted on what's happening. You're very strong and enduring and will continue to progress, I just know.

Yes, it's nice to have a friend like Poppet who can point me in the right direction.
I didn't know if they can be preventative about the problems associated with abx use and your gut.

I will need to get my handicap permit right away. I thought I would improve so I would not need it.

When is your next check on your blood?

Are you walking okay now?
Can you eat well?
Are you at 9 weeks? I had planned on returning to work at 10 weeks after my surgery. Due to my setbacks, I could not return until 16 weeks. You are retired, right? Is the weather nice where you are. It's so wonderful to get outside after being cooped up.

I am on Keflex now for a rash. It's also called cephalexin. I am wondering how you are doing. I think of you often. How is your pain? I hope that is improving every day. Can you walk around your house with a cane?
You are in my thoughts.

Well, I had my first aqua therapy session and I thought I had died and gone to heaven!!!!! It was so wonderfull being in the water....for that period of time it was easy to forget all the pain I have been in and wallking in the pool without a walker or cane ....I felt normal! My therapist thought I only needed 6 sessions (2 a week) and then I would be able to walk without my walker....I am going to advocate for more sessions....as many as I can get....the water was extra warm.....too warm to swim laps but then I wasnt there to swim. More labs tomorrow ...hopefully I will be still going in the right direction.
BarbieJ...you are taking Keflex for a rash ???? I am taking keflex and rifampin....will be seing the Infection specialist this week also....hopefully I will have a better idea how long I will need to be on the antibiotics. I keep taking one day at a time...confident that at some point this will all be over and I will be normal again.
Oh Barbie....I just read your thread ... now I understand the Keflex.

The Keflex is to be safe not sorry in the event that i have an infection. It does not seem to be helping.
I used to love being in the water. Sounds wonderful.
I am glad you are feeling so good.

Quee-Knee, please come and tell us how you are doing? How are you? How are your labs? I want you to know that you have a friend here who gets up and looks for a message from you! :friends:

I posted this twice accidentally, that's how much I want to hear from you!
