Question for all you ladies: how is everyone sleeping at night? I start off with elevation and icing and fall asleep for about an hour and a half, then I get rid of all the pillows and turn to my side with a pillow under my knee and sleep that way for probably another hour and a half, then back on my back. So far my best is maximum of two hours continuous sleep without a break. How about anyone else. Any techniques I should know about? :elevate:

Sleeping lol. That's not something I have learned yet. And I'm a bit over 2 months from revision. I start off just like you... So when ever some one finds a new technique. Holler at me lol... I try pillow under leg and over top of other leg. Sorta helps.

Nothing to do but ice elevate and excerise.

I'm sleeping in couple hour increments. I've never been one to sleep on my back, so it's a big deal when I roll from one side to the other. Hubby is a sound sleeper, he claims he never hears me! Sometimes I'll lay on my back and do quad presses. The stretch does seem to alleviate some of the knee aches a bit.

All tips appreciated! :-D

Hi @Pookie2015 we are only a week apart I had my second knee done in SK Canada April 21st and we're the same age lol....I had my first knee done 6 months ago so I can tell you it will all be worth it in the end..it just take a lot of patience, ice, relaxing & elevating, you think it will never come to an end but it does. Little projects are great to do, my first one I too started knitting, nothing fancy, but I think most of my friends now have one of my creations lol ... Now I've started to crochet, a blanket, I always made photo albums for my two children for Christmas last year, I'm not very good at just sitting, last week I sat on a bench and potted some plats with the help of my daughter, all this makes me feel that I have a little more control over my life each day. My bend at 4 weeks is around 85 so don't worry about it you will get there in the end.. I look forward to hearing your progress.
Ps I have friends in Okoatos ? He's a paster at at a Calgary Church...

I'm sleeping as well as I was before the surgery -- about as you described.

@Pookie2015 , I'm sleeping about like you. Sigh. When I first came home from the hospital, I was exhausted and slept well because I barely slept at all in the hospital and I think I had reached the point of utter collapse. But no more. Now I settle in, get uncomfortable an hour or two later, make a change of some sort (add ice, remove ice, add pillows, remove pillows, etc.) then do it all over again. It gets very frustrating. Some nights, I've slept in the recliner with ice, other nights I decide to try the bed. I, too, am open to ideas.

Thanks ladies and welcome little lady 58! I guess we're all in the same boat when it comes to our sleep or not sleeping. :bored:I can tell you right now if my left knee goes I will never, never do this again. Lol My surgeon said everyone says that at my stage and then 6 months down the road they say 'do the other knee' but I will tell you right now that will never, ever be me. lol
Truly I am not being a sucky.... just being realistic. :dubious:

Lol... @Pookie2015 thats how I feel right now, thank goodness I don't have another knee to do lol...
I'm sleeping pretty well most nights, I don't have any pain at the moment (touch wood)...

Good afternoon ladies (well it is here in the UK!!),

Just been reading all your posts about sleeping, now I know I said I can barely keep awake right now, & that is mainly true, although today, touch wood, I feel a bit more alert, but I still very rarely sleep for more than 2 hrs max at a time (the same as before surgery to be honest). Night times I started off trying to sleep in bed (I have a brand new Orthopaedic bed with a memory foam mattress), but found that every time I turned over it was pure agony, the tearing sensation in my knee was unbearable & I physically still can't turn my leg over, it's still too stiff & 'heavy'. I did find one position that I managed to sleep in for 2 hours tho (you could almost set the clock by it!!)-it's the left knee so I would, somehow, manage to haul myself right over to the left, using the edge of the mattress to grip onto, leave the left leg perfectly straight & cross the right one over it & pull it right up (similar to the foetal position I guess), but always when waking up after the 2 hrs would be in pain from a 'dead leg' on the operated one. I cannot sleep on my right side at all, the pain in my knee just won't allow it, so i'm resigned to sleeping on my back most of the time & often end up sleeping on the sofa as it's more comfortable-so the cat has the run of a new £400 single bed (I live alone apart from him), something very wrong here I think haha!!

Knee very stiff & painful today for some reason, but then we all have good & bad days, don't we? I hope you're all having a good day!!

Sue
