TKR New member 3 weeks post op

I was assessed at 6 weeks by the doctor who mentioned a MUA at 3 months but by the time that came round I was convinced I was on the road to recovery and could progress by myself . I only had 3 formal PT sessions . It was scary refusing the MUA and my doctor told me I read too much but there’s a wealth of information on here and it’s my body!
Thanks for sharing this, Gill15. I know reading about your experience will help others who are faced with the MUA decision.
You are doing really well.

It’s just over a year now and I’ve just had my annual review with my consultant. He was very pleased as am I. I have full range in my knee , can almost get it to my butt when I do quad stretches after swimming. I did a day when I did £23 k steps and only ached a bit in my muscles the next day not my knee.
My knee is strong as I’ve worked on it but also I’ve lost 30 kg since August ( that’s 4.5 stones or over 60 lb ) and that has helped so much. Although my op seems a long time ago I still remember all the doubts and pain but it’s been so worth it for me. Thank you Bone Smart people for the support. Anybody who says they are thinking of having a knee op I’m in there with my Bone Smart recommendation!

Happy One Year Anniversary!

Yippee, what a successful recovery you have had! Those just starting their journeys can look at you and see that things really do get better!

That’s great news, and so good to read. I’m just starting out on this daunting knee journey and seeing consultant for the second time tomorrow. Pain for months in left knee. GP said pseudo gout after X ray. Used my insurance to see a consultant as pain worsening. He said X-ray fairly normal for 66 yr old woman, and ordered a scan. Scan showed major meniscal tear and severe Patellafemoral arthritis. So far he has proposed repair of meniscal tear, and Patellafemoral resurfacing (PRK). As other knee had similar symptoms, but less pain it’s been scanned too. He will have the results tomorrow. Consultant very experienced and has good numbers with the Joint Registry.
Any tips?
Thank you and congratulations on your recovery.

Thank you @Layla i am considering this and will see how my appointment goes. It’s not a TKR but Patellafemoral replacement or resurfacing on the left. Will find out about the right one today. It’s all been quite a shock, apart from the meniscal tear. Thank you.
