TKR New knee Feb 5

Swelling, all by itself, will set you back for a bit. Pain will too. But you’ll move forward again. you’re just a few weeks out, and everything in your knee is still volatile. Stick with the ice and elevation and gentle work with that knee.

Do you go backwards sometimes on this recovery?
Oh yes. This recovery is a rollercoaster ride for sure.

I have had a problem I haven’t seen on this site. It seems I sweat a lot at night and wake up “damp“ every morning. And I am well past menopause! I don’t have a fever and don’t feel hot sleeping, in fact I keep my thermostat low at night because I like to sleep in a cool room. At first I thought maybe it was pain pills, but I am not taking them anymore, just Tylenol.

Night sweats can be caused by pain medications. It can also be associated with over-the-counter medications like Tylenol and NSAIDs. Since you are not that far out from your surgery, it also could be just your body readjusting itself following the anesthetic and surgical trauma. I think you'll notice this problem lessening as you get out from your surgery a little more. Give yourself a couple more weeks.

Funnily enough a chap at physio yesterday said he was having the same problem with night sweats. He was given the same advice Jamie has given you and his can't have been hormonal! I hope it calms down soon for you. I'm the reverse and cold!

I am feeling pretty proud of myself. Just got back from my Dr and he said I am already 2 months ahead of my last knee. I can tell this one has been so much easier, hope it continues. And I have a very gentle pt who believes I should not feel pain. My rom is 110 and ext is 5

I am now almost at 5 mo from my TKR. I have made it through the isolation of Covid and feel my recovery has been good. I went back to PT about a month ago, my rom is great, but still am having trouble with my extension. It just doesn’t seem to go straight, no matter how much stretching I do. Is this something that takes a long time and does it continue to improve?

My extension was slower to come in. The best way I could increase my extension was to walk with longer stride with a heel to toe gait. It didn't happen overnight, but it did come in, especially when I just forgot about it and went on with my living.

The extension always takes much longer, I stopped PT fairly early and found that my extension actually started to improve with walking, I try to walk tall, with longer strides and always practice the heel to toe movement, just remember to occasionally watch where you are going to avoid falling over or bumping into things... I've a tendency to walk into things or fall over my own feet ..:giggle:

I was going like a not-so-intrepid explorer. Thank you. How far from flat to the floor were you behind the knee?

I think I am now at 2, however that is measured. It is improving but very slowly. I am now at 6 mo out
