THR My recovery

@Mojo333
Yes, it’s sobering how even the simplest of things can be an unexpected challenge in the early days after THR.
I can’t imagine not having an un-operated leg to rely on in those situations. Bilateral is a whole step up in challenge (no pun intended!).
But, as we know, with patience things improve remarkably quickly as the days turn to weeks etc.
Have a good day..

Sorry you didn't get your swim in, I know how great they can make you feel. Hopefully the car situation works itself out before too long.

Hi @longtimechemist :xmas-wave-smiley-emoticon:
Good news on the 6 week check up. I'll bet it was reassuring to get a nod from the OS that all looks as it should. Sorry to hear the car wouldn't start now that you've been released to drive. Hopefully you got it running yesterday and fingers crossed :fingersx: made it for your swim today. You're doing well, keep it up.
Happy Thursday!

@longtimechemist Sorry to hear your car would not start. I hope you were able to remedy that without too much trouble. I am thinking about using something called a trickle charger this winter.

Hi all
Yes, the car battery needed recharging, which I did. It’s been running fine since then. Did my first swim this morning- 750 metres with a couple of breaks. I’m going to take the weekend to watch for any reaction, and if all is fine I’ll do the same a couple of times next week.

You're a wise one! Glad it was only the battery, gladder you were able to get your swim in, gladest you're wise enough to pace yourself and see if you suffer any negative effects before returning. I hope you have a peaceful evening. :)
@longtimechemist

Here I am at my 7 week mark, and things have continued to improve. This past week I've had a couple of days when my new hip has felt just the same as the other one. I've also had days when it still felt different.
I've started a few exercises on the advice of the physio at my 6-week check up. I'm doing lateral leg raises and raising the knee while standing, along with balancing on the operated leg.
Driving has been OK, although it's not entirely comfortable sitting in that position for long. I think I'll stick to short journeys for the moment.
No reaction to my swim on Thursday, so I'll be in the pool a couple of mornings next week too.
Happy days!

Hello @longtimechemist
Thanks for sharing your progress. You're doing well! I couldn't tolerate sitting in the car for too long either for the first several months. Thankfully it slowly eased. I hope you benefit from the targeted exercises Physio has suggested and you're able to continue enjoying your morning swims.
Have a nice Sunday and a great week!

Good day, I hope, @longtimechemist
When I read of timeline benchmarks, it makes me want to go back and see where I was at the same time in my recovery.
This is a 2 month post of mine that reminds me of how proud I was to be standing tall...not hunched over and feeling old.

Some close-to-this-time posts describe some ongoing niggles - sore quads, some residual numbness, and slight groin and butt muscle pain.
Just all part of the process...
Keeping my gratitude keeps me humble. Can't imagine what shape I would've been in by now without having my hips replaced.
You have done a stellar job at being mindful during your recovery and 2020 will certainly be a Very Good Year.:egypdance:

Yep... that's one tall-standing lady! I agree that returning to something like our previous height is a great thing, and something that a non-THR person wouldn't even think about! I think you'd be very short without new hips, eh?
I too have the odd bit of pain now and again - outside of the thigh below the cut, sometimes the groin - but it only lasts a minute or two.
Swimming seems to be OK, and I've started with a few Tai Chi exercises from my previous studies of the subject. Nothing too vigorous, just gentle movements transferring weight around whilst moving slowly.
I'm looking forward to 2020... and I hope it's as good for you as I think it will be for me.

Yep...I'm 5'3" so standing taller would likely be more appropriate.:loll:

Its going to be a very good year...I can do this now.:chuckmarch:

Good really early morning (for me):mcoffee:
Don't know if or how extensively you celebrate the season, but I DO hope all is well.
Recovery can feel slow, however I kind of miss being able to use my hips for an excuse to stay out of the fray.:umm:
Still have a few more gifts to pick up and I Do detest Shopping.

Healing vibes still coming at you.:xmas-snowball-fight-smiley-emoticon:

Hi @Mojo333
I’m doing well thanks - I’ve decided to go to monthly milestones now, so on Thursday it will be two months since surgery. How time flies by (in restrospect - I know my first couple of weeks post-op did drag at the time).
I’m walking without the cane now, but I do take it with me just in case I need it (it folds down). Swimming has started well, but I’m taking it easy and building back up to my previous distances.
Wishing you and yours a great break over the holidays!

:SUNsmile:Happy Sunday @longtimechemist
You've been awfully stoic these past weeks.. in sharp contrast to My Recovery Thread which was wrought with worried inquiries, and whining...and exuberance over losing that bone crunching pain.
Hope all is continuing to go onward and upward.
