THR My recovery

:bored: I can certainly sympathize because my all night sleep piece of the puzzle was the last to fall into place.
I was going to give you a link to our library article but I see you already found it:) :-) (:
Best I can muster...is This Too Will Pass.
I had such trouble sleeping with bad hips that I was sorely sleep deprived (pun intended!) and ever so anxious to be able to sleep.
Hang in there @longtimechemist
You are doing well.

Yes @Mojo333 I read the library article yesterday, and it makes sense that the many things going on can affect our sleep. I'm also gradually reducing my use of codeine phosphate, and I've read that one likely effect of this is trouble sleeping. It will pass, I know...

 and good morning :mcoffee: (for me)
Hope you are finding that your leg is getting better.
The stamina part of my recovery was also a bit slow to return but this is kind of a good thing for our bodies in the healing phase.
I thought of this often in regard to my interest in wildlife.
A wounded animal increases its chances for survival by saving and utilizing energy stores.
Hope your day is restful and restorative!

Hi @Mojo333 , and good afternoon (for me!).
The leg is definitely improving. I'm going through a 'tired' phase at the moment - wanting to nap a lot during the day. I'm walking up and down the street outside (using crutches) each day, and I think that is helping me develop a 'normal' gait rather than trying to walk without them too soon.
This week I've been able to lie on my non-operated side at night. This has been a great relief, as although I don't mind sleeping on my back, it's nice to have another option.

Hi all
It’s the end of week 3 post-op, so an update is in order.
I’ve cut the pain meds down this week, paracetamol by 25% and codeine phosphate by about 60%. I’m aiming to continue this slowly in the coming week.
Walking around the house with one crutch is comfortable and I’m still using two outside.
This week I plan to do two 15-20 minute outdoor walks per day, provided I don’t get a pain reaction.
The leg feels more stable, and the swelling has all but gone now.
All in all, very good!

Hooray:egypdance:for things to be going well.
I hope the weather cooperates with your outdoor walking plans.
I had some serious cabin fever going on nearing one month out in my recovery and I believe the temperatures were in the upper 90's farenheit. :nah:

Aren't our bodies' healing abilities miraculous?
I think you are doing all the best way...slow and steady does win this race!
Onward and upward, @longtimechemist :thumb:

Weather here in England is ok for a couple of walks each day. It’s certainly not in the 90’s Fahrenheit!!

Hopefully by now you've snagged a few zzzzz's and feeling a bit more rested.
It seems to be part of the recovery woes.
I hope you had a good weekend, regardless.

Hello and a Happy Monday to you.,
Your doing well!
Your plan sounds sensible and conservative, the best approach.
Thanks for sharing, we're rooting for you all the way. :yes!:
Stay in touch and enjoy the week!

Hi @CricketHip and @Layla
Thanks for your continued support, which has been very valuable to me. My natural tendency is to push things too far too quickly, and the info here on the site has made it clear that this would not be a good plan. My THR is an investment for my future, and so it's worth the patience now for good times later, I believe.
This is week 4, and the leg is feeling a lot more stable. I have been surprised by the speed of muscle wastage in the quads of the operated leg, but I guess I've hardly used those muscles since the operation. I'm sure it will fix itself once I get to the point of putting more load on that leg.

Hi all
Today is the day when I officially became pain-free! No more opiates, no more paracetamol...
It's been three or four years since I've been able to get through a day without pain medication of some kind.
Isn't modern medicine wonderful?!

Ain't it just grand!

@longtimechemist, that's great news. And just a note: one day ... or multiple days ... you may push yourself harder and farther than your body is ready for ... and yes you're likely to have some soreness or pain then ... No biggie ... just slow down the next few days and you're good to go.

You seem quite balanced and patient and it seems also you are paying attention to your body quite precisely. Man, that combination is a great skill set (or perhaps mindset!) that a lot of us struggle with.

Keep going as you've been going! You're rocking and rolling.
