THR My recovery

Same for me...it really is the magic of the forum...people connecting and relating their experiences.
Even at 3 1/2 years out post BTHR, I remember the pre-op pain and sleep deprivation...the anxiety over a major surgery, and the uncertainty of recovery.
My hip compadres loved me through it with advice and reassurance.
Glad to have your success story, like mine...possibly riddled with anxious questions...now just to hope new hippys will understand the importance of Sloooow and Easy.:) :-) (:

Happy One Year Anniversary!
Thanks for stopping by. It’s so wonderful to hear you have your life back.
Enjoy in good health. Wishing you many blessings in 2021! :)

Well, it’s mid December, and the operated hip is great. The other one isn’t so good, though. OMG!
At my 6 week check, I asked the surgeon his opinion of my left (non-operated) hip on the X-ray. At that time it felt fine. “Be guided by your symptoms”, he advised. My symptoms are rather painful.
I waited too long to have the first one replaced, and I had hoped I would just need the one. Seems I may be wrong.

Oh my stars... Glad to hear Righty is happy, but sorry to hear your left one is complaining.
"Let your symptoms be your guide" is good advice, as I am guessing at the 6 week mark he saw signs of OA in your other hip?
Bad hips can often get worse quickly, unfortunately.
I'm guessing you've been able to be much more active since recovering from your first hip.

Any plans on having additional x-rays to see the status now?
Do let us know.

@longtimechemist This is very common. Hips can fail fairly quickly. Can you get on the wait list for surgery? Wait times are horrid now. But areas are opening up - especially dedicated orthopaedic centres.

Yes, there were already signs of OA in the left hip in Oct 19 when the right was replaced. I was just kinda hoping it’d hold out for a bit longer.
I’m in Brazil until April 2021. Fortunately my surgeon trained here , so he will be able to organise an X-ray, I hope.
I will try to last until we return to England and I can hopefully get it done soon after that....

... and yes, @Mojo333 , I had become more active since the right was replaced. Also, the left took a lot of the strain when the right was deteriorating, so it’s served me well.

Hello @longtimechemist
I‘m sorry to hear the news about your left hip. Hopefully you can hang on without major suffering, or missing out on too much.
Wishing you a nice holiday season. Enjoy Brazil and safe travels home in a few months.

Hello Bonesmart people
Thought I’d check in again as it’s now 2 years since my right THR. It’s still working great! No pain, decent range of movement, etc. Having the surgery was a great decision- it’s given me back my life.
My left has calmed down again since the end of last year when I posted about it. I had a recent consultation with my surgeon, and the X-ray of the left showed hardly any change compared to 3 years previously. That was reassuring!

@longtimechemist Thanks for the update! Sounds like you are back to living life again. Another success story.

Fingers crossed that left hip continues to behave! :fingersx:

Hi @longtimechemist

Happy 2 year Hipversary!:dancy:

So happy to see your post and so glad you took the time to give an update as I know how comforting it was for me to read success stories before my hip surgery and in early days.
A life without hip pain was well worth the recovery struggles.:egypdance:

Hi all
Three years now since my THR, and all is well. No problems at all with the new joint in the past year. We’re living in South America now and I’ve been fairly active in setting up our new place etc.
I’ve taken up Qigong to help my creaking leftie, and it really has helped.

@longtimechemist
Glad to hear you are doing well.
Had to look up Qigong :) :-) (: and I'm glad you are finding it helpful.
Hope your 2022 ends with you being happy and healthy.

Nice to hear from you and read you're doing well. Thanks for stopping by!
I hope you're enjoying your new home. Be safe, stay well!
@longtimechemist

I just realised that today is my 4 year anniversary! All is still great with the new (or not so new) hip. TBH I rarely even think about it.
Anyone reading this before deciding on surgery - there’s a lot to be said for a life free of chronic joint pain!

@longtimechemist Thanks for the update! It is wonderful to hear you are doing well and enjoying your pain free hip!
