Mid seventies and worried about general anaesthetic

@FraidyCat I'm sure getting the best surgeon is by far the most important decision.....the choice of anaesthetic would then be up to him... From reading posts on BS everyone's experiences vary anyway........luckily ( or not, as the case may be) I am in the NHS system, didn't do any research prior to surgery ,just knew it had to be done, had the surgeon I was allocated and he likes the spinal with sedation and that's what I got!! My recovery is doing OK, some ups and downs but think that's normal.....it's quite a magical, mystery tour . But certainly have no bone on bone pain anymore and that has to be good. Good luck with your decision making process. Merry Xmas too...Chrissie xx

Just had LTHR on 17th and though was advised at pre op that it would be under spinal, when I went in for surgery and talked with the anethesiologist, he suggested that the GA would be his choice if in the same situtaion.. adn since I posed no previous risk, he thought that option was a good one. i.e. he could not advise me ;). I was a little worried bout being awake as I've been when having spinal and twighlight before. He said they would have put me out but again, my choice. So GA seemed to be the more known route for me. That being said, I think I would have recovered much faster under spinal and if I do again, would choose that option now that I know what to expect. I think he just freaked me out at the last minute. I really believe after reading posts that either version is fine and that anthesiologists are very good and know their craft and would not take you down the wrong path if it was not the right process for you.

It's surprising how often people think that having a spinal inevitably means one is awake during the procedure but it very rarely is unless the patient has specifically requested it.
