Bilateral TKR Massage?

Thanks for your replies. I am 5 weeks post op tomorrow and just came back from PT. (By the way, I read them the riot act that I am not going to let them hurt me.) My angles were both knees 0 degrees on extension and 100 degrees flexion. My therapist was very happy with the result and so am I. I finally feel like the pain is receding and I am getting somewhere! Yay!

My .02 at Day 12, I am icing 90% of the time right now. I turned it off last night when I took my midnight pain meds and definitely felt worse for it this morning so I've been back on the ice since 6:00 in the morning. I've taken two breaks to walk around the house and do light PT for a total of about 10 minutes each time. I have very little swelling left and good ROM (90/0) and I attribute that (rightly or wrongly) to the ice.

It's a hassle to fill up the machine because it requires traipsing about the house with the old ones dripping water. Mike made customizable refreezable icepacks so that I can just swap them out every 6 hours or so.

Every one of our recovery is different. If the ice is reducing the swelling, you will have less pain and a better range of motion.

FYI - I'm going stir crazy because of the lack of movement. That is the most difficult part of the recovery so far by a long way

I'm right there with you on lack of movement. I lead a very busy life and I am definitely not a couch potato but must have patience. It's gonna take as long as it takes so I'm trying to make the most of it.

It certainly is a process. I finally feel like I am moving in the right direction. Unfortunately we have 2 feet plus of snow on the ground and the temperature here is 4 degrees Fahrenheit so getting outside for a little walk around the block is out of the question. If we had a big mall nearby, I would be going there early in the am when not too many people are about and doing some a little walking. Not sure how to get past needing a nap every day, though. I don’t think they will let me do that when I get back to work! Lol!

Definitely enjoy the naps. I almost miss mine. They were... refreshing. Do you have any big box stores near you? Home Depot. Lowes. Wal-Mart or Target. Even some grocery store are rather mega-sized these days. If you can leave your cards and money at home, or otherwise resist the temptation to browse or purchase, such stores make fine places to walk. I mentally remodeled my bathrooms and kitchen while enjoying a Home Depot last winter. Did end up buying a new faucet.
