@kcmocook

Absolutely normal part of recovery to feel at loose ends. It will pass and I found getting out into the sunshine for some Vitamen D helped tremendously!

Cheer up. You're doing great!!!!! Once you start outpatient therapy things will get better. I know for a fact recovering phase can be frustrating but having a positive attitude works wonder. Once the PT stretch out those muscle it feels like heaven. Get rest and things will get better :-)

It is hard to believe that I am at one month. Well, those burst of pent-up energy I'd had the past 10 days or so are long gone. I started outpatient PT on Monday and it wore me out. It wasn't even anything difficult, mainly stretches and ROM exercises. I was exhausted when I got home and pretty much so on Tuesday. I have to go 3X week for 4 weeks. I went again today and did just a few more stretches, then had me ice for 15 minutes. (I am terrible about icing at home.) I will add in aqua beginning on Monday.

The PT who evaluated me on Monday said I was doing quite well for four weeks out. It just doesn't seem like we do very much. I guess that I shouldn't complain, considering that the stuff we're working on tires me out. My hip doesn't hurt, but my knees and feet (which have arthritis) as well as my right ankle bother me more. I am ready for bed.

I met a woman today who had the same procedure with the same ortho group and she is one day behind me. She looked pretty flexible, but she said she was still in a lot of pain and was also numb in the left hip/pelvic area. It's nice to get familiar with some of the other PT patients.

I am just bothered though, why my energy level is still so low. It was pretty bad prior to surgery. I have been rundown, in pain and overall mediocre health for a good 14 months before my surgery, so maybe this all factors in.

Thank you everybody for hanging in with me!! Hope all the hippies are healing nicely and feeling spry!

You arebdoing so great. Don't let the lack of energy get you down.

I think the energy is the biggest factor to our recovery. We had no energy prior to surgery because of the pain. You would think it would just come back. Our bodies just went through some major trauma and manipulation. So our body cries for rest to heal. Today I went to the doctor. I knew I was in for a long walk from parking to his office because there is never any available handicap. Then waiting and of course he checks ROM. Walk back to car. Drive home. Wiped out. :sleep: Such a simple day and I needed a nap. Crazy.

After reading so many recovery threads we are all the same. It is so easy to over do it. You are doing so great. Listen to your body. If it wants sleep, then sleep. If you have energy, walk clean do something. If your sore ice rest and elevate. Our energy will be back soon. Keep up the awesome work.

@kcmocook I have just been reading through your thread and find some of similarities quite remarkable. We are very close in age and I have had rhuematoid arthritis for 25+ years and they are now saying I also have Osteo. I have noticed my arth in my feet has been rampant since my surgery, especially in my op leg and of course my wrists from crutching. I think the strangest thing of all is despite having a hysterectomy about 5 years ago, my "hot flashes" have come back with a vengeance! I keep a hand fan and an icy bottle of water handy all the time :)

With your recovery and arthritis issues going on at the same time it can be overwhelming and all you can do is be really kind to yourself. I am sure that you are well aware that fatigue and stress can cause flares in your arthritis so it is not surprising how it rears it's ugly head for us. To help lift your spirits maybe grab a pillow, a coffee to go and go sit on a park bench to watch the people and the leaves fall. You may not be able to enjoy a walk in the park this year but you can still enjoy the park. It's all about lowering our expectations just for a short time and enjoying the little things so to speak. Overall, I think it sounds like your recovery is going very well and as long as you don't get tempted to overdo it, it will continue along that path :)
