@Mtnmama That's great. Those pain pills really can be pretty evil. If you need them use them, if not or if they're causing other issues ditch them. Hadn't thought of the depression factor but it makes sense. I think I last took an ibuprofen 2 or 3 weeks ago and that was just because of back to back hiking days and the ensuing muscle soreness. Stationary bike is good. I've adjusted my position so quite sure I can get on any of my regular bikes now. I'll set up a trainer when my gym pass expires (next week?). Still think I may put the studded tires on a MTB soon and start on that on flats some.

12 week app't with doc today (at near 16 weeks). All clear for whatever including skiing. That surprised me. Skiing here isn't great right now but with some snow we'll see. All clear for biking too. Just got my trainer set up in the basement and been on my own bike the last couple of days. Put the studs on the MTB I guess and get at it. The thing feels solid and strong and doc said it looks the same. Learned some stuff about alignment of the new joint, leg length is within mm he said. Zoom zoom, now I can get active again....wwwwweeeeeeeee!

@Mtnmama how's it rollin' for you?

Not quite 6 months out from surgery. Just got back from a spectacular 2 week trip in New Zealand. This trip came up very quick and was a classic 'once in a lifetime' particularly since it didn't cost me anything (or my GF). The main purpose of the trip was mountain biking and the highlight was a 3 day trip to Marlborough Sound. This featured 2 days of mountain biking the 'Queen Charlotte Track' and a third day of kayaking back across the sound. The biking was back to back 25km days each with 4500' of climbing. I went well and was leading our small group and riding more of the steepest stuff than the others. We also had a 41km day on much flatter terrain along the spectacular south coast of the north island.

This is why I pushed hard in rehab, to be able to get back to stuff like this and I'm glad I did. I know some have been pretty laid up for some time before surgery and it's a long way back. I wasn't as I rode right up until the day before and I got going at working hard pretty quick after. My surgeon and his rehab people all said 'move it move it move it' and I did. I know the refrain here is the new hips will rehab with little effort but if you're fit and no your body don't be afraid to push and get yourself back to where you want to be. You never know when a golden opportunity might pop up and I know I would have hated to miss it. Everyone is different but some will be able to handle the effort, everyone just needs to listen to their own bodies.

Isn't it great! I am so happy I got my hip done. I'm almost 4 months since my surgery. Finally getting back to some real exercise. Had my bike out for a 10 mile ride over the weekend, swam a mile today. Just now starting to jog a bit on the treadmill. You say you were able to ride your bike right up to the surgery, wow! I could ride my bike some, but I would hurt & limp so badly after it was hard to really be motivated to do it. New Zealand, that is so cool that you got the opportunity & had your new hip all set so that you could really do what you want. We went to Costa Rica for spring break & I was thrilled that I could hike, swim, zip line all without feeling that old pain. yay for THR!
