Wow, Kmak, that's a whole lotta hills and walking! Look at you, strolling across the Golden Gate bridge as well; cool beans! I'm so glad (but not happier than you) you had your trusty cane with you; phew! Hills are tough, up and down, and San Fran sure has them, eh? You might need the ice at night, but...you are ready to go in the morning! To me, that speaks volumes.:happydance:

Yah for you! What a great report and it gives me hope!! Right now I can't imagine walking a mile, not to mention 5-7. I'm 6 weeks and at the OS now waiting to be seen... I'm glad your vacation was good and the knee was showing off! I'm hopeful the rest of our bodies catch up knees eventually!!

Inspiring ! Pretty sure l'd be the one groaning on the floor. From eating too much ice cream, of course!
Sorry, my 18yr old wise butt has been making lame comments all evening and it is wearing off on me.
Your trip sounded awesome and it seems that the knee reprecussions were manageable.
Good. Very good!

WOW:egypdance:I cannot believe how much you walked!!! I know after my last knee it took me almost 9 months to do 5 miles walks. I just started getting the Road Scholar information. I thought it might be a good way for a single woman to do some traveling. I have travel to Europe alone and with my daughter. I am trying to decide on a trip location for 2018. It would be nice not to have to plan every detail.

Thanks all for the good wishes. I have been pleasantly surprised as the week has gone on with the lessening pain while walking. All of this walking is not something I would have chosen to do at home and I expect I will be glad to get back to a more sedentary pace (at least for a few more weeks) when I get home in a few days. Today, not as much walking and no pain in the walking I did (a nice development) - just that "wonkiness" that @SusieShoes so clearly describes. Just does not feel normal yet. I hope that I will eventually get to a place where I walk freely without thinking about it so much. We went to a planetarium today and I had to move seats as the original one I chose was not comfortable with my flexion at this point. One nice perk, when you get on a public bus with a cane you are always offered a seat!!

@cnm1 - it is nice to not have to plan anything - one of the perks of doing a guided tour. This was an intergenerational trip - grandparents and grandkids. The grandparents are currently whipped - and the grandkids (ages 12-14) have energy to burn :smile2:I'm glad my knee has cooperated and I was not a "drag" on the trip. Besides, now I can be one of "those people" who says, I walked up and down the streets of San Francisco for miles just a couple of months after my knee replacement - ha!:hairpulling:

Wow I remember struggling to walk around San Fran with two good knees! Very impressed that you persevered! Tell us what you ate so many great places there...not to mention the wineries up north!

Well @keefsmom I'm surprised my knee is not rebelling more due to the increased weight I have put on with all of this good food - seafood at the Wharf, great ethnic food, and of course, chocolate . . . none of these things are available in my small town and I have taken great advantage.

@kmak81230, all this walking you've been doing is really putting you over into the obnoxious end, lol! You'll soon become an urban legend, hahaha! *My gran walked 8 miles, uphills, all over San Francisco with a brand new knee replacement.. Afterwards, she dove off into the bay, and swam for 5 miles in 55 degree water, just to *cool* her knee.* Can't you hear it now, echoing through Twitter, hairdressing salons and the very best water-cooler conversations? I can.:heehee:

yes @Pheebs52 - I'll be the talk of PT clinics everywhere. Can't forget that swim to Alcatraz and back, followed by a quick run up Lombard street to warm back up. And of course I took the stairs every day to my 24th floor hotel room instead of the elevator - - - hahaha --- if only . . . I hope I don't kicked out of the slow bender club.

To be in San Francisco 50 years after "the summer of love". :friends:Wow. Flowers in my hair?

Kmak, lol! How could I forget the quick run up Lombard street and the hotel stairs? Duh!

Oh, VW54, how I wanted to be there in 1967, but alas, I didn't have travel money back then! The parents would have frowned on it as well, lol!

Surprisingly enough, I've only seen one "summer of Love" poster so far. .. .

SF has clearly moved on. You're doing so wonderfully with all that walking. That's the poster I want to see. "Get your knees replaced and you, too, can do SF in a day!"

Happily back home on the Lounge Doctor after my "escape to Alcatraz." I figured out from the Fitbit that I averaged 6 miles per day of walking over 4 days in SF. :wowspring:I must've been on autopilot during those days because after 2 travel days with not much walking I'm stiff, tired, and sore. I would skip PT tomorrow but it's the last day for my therapist as he's moving and I want to thank him for his good, gentle care (and get some massage). Not much swelling over the past couple of days but I can tell I'm still healing with the annoying little aches and pains that still crop up. I'm glad I had this little respite from recovery (as well as quality family time) but clearly I am still on the recovery journey with many months to go. I think @nensi mentioned walking slow in one of her posts. I think I walk very slowly and very deliberately. I wonder when it will become more "natural" and automatic.:mcoffee:

You've done brilliantly with your trip to SF. Your knee has earned some rest.

It's nice to thank your PT therapist - good ones seem to be so rare, and it's reassuring to know there are some out there.

good for you kmak81230. it couldn't have been easy but you did it and had a great time with family in that beautiful city. you might need to take it easy for a few days now with your friend "Dr. Lounge".

I am impressed with the number of miles you put on your new knee! :yay: Amazing! Glad to hear you had a great trip and are back home and chilling with LD.
