The return of normalcy, those little things and moments, is so restorative. I remember just a simple drive in the country at four weeks. I felt so human and free. And the first time since surgery when Mr. Shoes and I went out to dinner at a local restaurant. It meant getting a piece of my life back.
These moments come more often as you shed the trappings of surgery: walkers, crutches or canes, foam wedges and extra pillows, leg lifters and toilet rails. Each bit you shed is a cause for celebration. Each time you can do something you could not do before is a victory.
