Thru and Thru Hi just want to wish you lots of luck for your hip op on Monday I see you have been given loads of good advice already so I just want to say that you have made a very good decision and from Monday will be on your journey to recovery and getting your life back. I notice that you have arthritis of the hands as I do I would recommend that you ask for canes or crutches with a palm grip as the standard issue ones put a lot of pressure on the hands as I found out to my cost.I look forward to reading your thread from the recovery side.

Thru and Thru prayers and best wishes for Monday! 2 more sleeps and then a very busy day which takes you to the other side! Will see you there when you are ready to check in :) :) :happydance:

I'll be computer-less for a few days after tomorrow morning, so here's an early send off, wishing you the very best on Monday and looking forward to your recovery posts.

Yes, wishing you a great recovery featuring lots of rest, ice and pain control. Good luck!

Even though I work in an office my workload is such that once I walk through that door I'll end up staying the full day before I know it and I absolutely will not jeopardize my recovery in such a way.

Well, the key to your issue here is to go in to work with only 2-3 hours of the day left vs. first thing in the morning!! :)

I hope all went well with your pre-op appointment, we'll be watching for you on the "other side."

Take care,
Cardie

Hi Thru and Thru,
I am new here myself and trying to learn as much as possible. There are many great resources in the library here and so much to learn from reading posts by others. I just wanted to say that I am fairly certain your doctor will have to give you a written release back to work in just about every state in the US. I had sinus surgery and just for that a doctor's release was required! When I did go back to work even that little surgery taxed my energy for several more weeks. Take good care of yourself, your boss wont ;-)

I've had one more question crop up since my final pre-op appointment. Are or where any of you on hormone replacement therapy while you had your THR surgeries? My doc told me that I should have stopped taking my a week prior to the surgery and wait until two weeks post-surgery to start up again. I only take such a minute little dose (0.5 mg) and no one has ever mentioned this to me before for prior surgeries so I was quite baffled. Btw, not a word of this was mentioned in any of the brochures, instructions, etc. they gave me at the time my surgery was scheduled.

One more day to go till D-Day, I must say I'm starting to get quite nervous!!! I will check in on the post-surgery forum after I get home from the hospital. Wish me luck! :thankyou:

It's Tuesday here in Australia, on the other side yet? Best of luck.
Ally

Yep, I'm on the other side now. My surgery went well, I've even been out of bed and walking once already. It did take its toll on me though, I am still woozy and very tired. By now I'm also starting to get hungry, the nurse said that maybe. I can have a sandwich a little later.

Hi thru the looking glass.... well done. And you get a sandwich, no less. I would have killed for a sandwich option, the food was horrible, even inedible where I had my hip done. I had Mr.Vida bring me healthy stuff like sushi and fruit salad. But I should not complain.....a lot of countries give patients nothing at all. Take care of yourself and remember to ice a lot.

thru and thru: Congratuations...give in to tired! Treat yourself best! Take care.

Thru and Thru I suppose the fitter you are the less PT you may need but also once you start having the joint pain and can't move those muscles they will start to tighten up pretty fast. I am going through the PT now and I'm not gonna say it's easy but then I do what I can, I need to work harder than I do but in my case I need to have my other hip replaced, that's slowing everything down for me. I'm hoping to see leaps and bounds of improvement once it get rid of that pain too. It will come back and you will be able to live an active life again. I'm seeing a lot of ROM in my new hip and that's working with my achy hip. I started back to work part-time last week and it went really well. I didn't have the energy drain at all....I felt really good. I did have to use my cane but that's okay, everyone holds the doors open for you...lol.
