Hello Janet! :)

I am so proud of all of the progress you have made! You mentioned in one of your earlier posts that after you returned from the hospital you had to advocate for yourself as far as PT and OT went. It was the other way around for me! They came hunting for me! LOL:heehee: After all, they missed their "shy" patient! I will go back to see Dr. Maale on Thursday, and have my pic line removed. On Friday, I plan on surprising the rehab center with a visit before I fly back home. :dancy:

Sonja, thanks! And my very best wishes to you that you will be putting this saga of complications behind you once and for all!

I can't wait to hear from you when you're and settled. Enjoy your freedom! :ok: Take nice and slow! Did they set you up with any home visiting nursing care or home PT?

Have a great first night at home Janet! Good for you! I'm about to have my LAST night at home for a while!!!!! Hope you enjoy everything!

Janet,

Hope your homecoming is a good one. Will be waiting to hear from you when you get there. You are doing just a good job with recovery keep it up, just go slow and easy.

Janet, congratulations on going home today. Hope that you're resting, icing, elevating, and napping well. It's great to be back home in your own recliner and bed. Look forward to updates. :yay:

Thank you all! I've got my toes in the air and peas on my knees! I need to make a little chart for myself so I remember what meds I'm suppose to take when.

I went out on the deck and walked around without the walker, got to see the flowers and talk to my neighbors. I was able to sit in my deck chairs, which are bar table height, so that was nice!

I don't have any home nursing or PT set up. I figure I can just take care of myself until I see the OS on Thursday. My hemo finally started going up. It had been stuck around 8.6 since after surgery, but yesterdays test came back 9.9, so maybe I can avoid taking iron pills yet.

Glad you are home it always feels better being in your own home. Glad you are following the Bonesmart recovery plan

Janet, looking great so far! Sounds like you made yourself at home right away! When you sat on that deck chair you must have let out a big sigh! :sigh: congrats on your homecoming, enjoy! :friends:

There's no place like home!! :yay: Glad you are back home and all is well! :friends:

Good morning! First night home and in my own bed. I think I slept pretty well, yay! Still on my back, but comfortable none the less. I have my legs up on my wedge and a pillow on my bed and am in a very happy place with my big beautiful view of the trees and garden out the windows. Not that ten days of a view of the parking lot at rehab was not entertaining with all the comings and goings of ambulances and all. And there were flower pots, after all.

I downloaded an app I like (Dosecast) to keep track of all my meds. The free version is pretty good, but I ended up buying the full version which lets me look at the dose history, not just the last dose, and some other things. I think it's going to be very helpful. Speaking of doses, I've got to get hubby out to pick up some Colace. Getting a balanced diet full of fiber will be more challenging now that I don't have a full time kitchen at my beck and call. Don't want to fall behind there!

I find myself walking around the room unaided, which astounds me at this point. I use the walker to go from room to room, as much for self defense against the cat, who has not figured out how to get out of the way yet, as for stability and general safety. Maybe I only need my forearm crutches, or only one even. This is a temp walker, and they are supposed to deliver my own today. I was thinking I might not need it, but thinking again, I will need it if I venture out of the house to walk.

So homecoming is so far so good! I have to think about what I should be doing now that I'm away from the structure of rehab, but I'm just up and walking around more which is as good as anything at this point. I'll enjoy not having a schedule until I see the OS on Thursday!

Home! Home! there's no place like Home! (but having staff like at rehab could be a nice thing). And you are so right about the Colace---you don't want that "C" monster coming to visit:yikes: ---almost worse than the surgery---I unfortunately know from experience. Wasn't warned when I had my hip done---and suffered for a couple of days 'til I got it resolved. Just keep on doing what you've been doing so far, and it should keep getting BETTER & BETTER.

.

Welcome home Janet! Sounds like things are going okay so far! Take it easy. I used my walker for about 4-5 weeks, mostly to be sure to clear a path around the house.

Janet....use whatever walking aid makes you feel the most comfortable and stable. As long as you are not limping, it doesn't matter.

Sounds like you are doing great!

What about eating a couple handful of nuts for fiber? That always does it for me, course I don't know if the meds complicate that. Plus there is new studies being done about nuts collecting calories and flushing them out before they turn to fat, so bonus for me.

I know what you mean about the cat, mine is fascinated with my walker and my cane. Plops herself down around it and tries to attack it. She's even been hurt by it but is undaunted. (I still have them from my foot operation and they are coming in handy for me right now even before my knee operation is scheduled)
