Ankle Is this normal?

If you can keep off the air cast when not mobile, I’d probably be icing the bejeezus out of your leg if you aren’t already. You could maybe even look into buying/renting a cold therapy machine to get you through this period. They usually have an adjustable temp so that you can safely leave it on for hours.

Anyway, hope it’s already better since you now know you don’t have to wear the air cast all the time.

Thank you for the tip on the cold therapy unit! I didn’t even know that they existed.
The cast clinic did tell me that I can take the cast off when resting. It is relieving at first but then it gets uncomfortable because I have little control over my ankle and there is a lot of shooting pain. I will adjust, I know. Hopefully sooner rather than later ..... says every person who has ever had surgery I’m guessing lol

A nice ice pack with an Ace bandage to hold it in place and support your ankle might help @Khooper. If you could add some ice with just enough ankle support, maybe it will help.

Alternatively, if you are having trouble getting your ankle in a comfortable position while icing because of a lack of support, maybe wrap your ankle tightly in an ACE bandage first for support/compression, and then put some kind of cooling over that.

How are you doing @Khooper? Hopefully you are finding some relief. Let us know how you are doing when you have a chance.

Hello, thank you for checking in on me. I have been doing better. I left my room yesterday and had dinner with my family for the first time since my accident and I think it really helped mentally to be around them. I am very fortunate that this happened after moving back home to Canada because I do have that support from family. I was pretty swollen by the end of it but in better spirits, which I am beginning to realize is a big part of this journey. I go back to the cast clinic next Monday so that will put me at about 6 1/2 weeks. I’m getting there ☺️

Hello, thank you for the tip on the ACE bandage! I definitely prefer this over a sock because I can adjust it to my swelling. I find that socks make me feel claustrophobic and I spend a lot of time wanting to just cut them off lol. So the bandage has been a real comfort!
