Do we have any Floridians in harm's way from Irma? This is just a shout-out to let you know your Northern pals are thinking of you and hoping all of you manage to stay safe! I have family on the East Coast of FL and have some concerns for them, but they are in the central area. They are worried, but so far, plan to stay. Of course, that might change as Big Irma's path becomes more certain.

i'm on a private St. Martin Facebook site and they have been getting hit hard. you can look up the live webcams online or youtube. it's frightening. those poor people on the islands. i hope they are safe as well as our friends in florida. i'm on another private dog community group, sending donations to help the shelters move the dogs out of harms way. there is a group of shelter dogs coming up to toronto.

Good info @liam2015! I'm still contributing to the Houston Humane Society and will continue. I too am also concerned for all those beautiful, little islands, where escape is virtually impossible. The only thing some of them have in their favor is higher ground than FL.

@Pheebs52 ~ yes, actually houston is the destination where the IACP's is helping out as many of their members are in the u.s. and affected by the flooding. liam's trainer is a past president of IACP.

so funny, i didn't realize there were so many organizations using IACP...the one i'm referring to is "canine professionals" but there's also chiefs of police, culinary professionals, counselling and psychotherapy, compounding pharmacists, collaborative practise.:heehee:

Hi all
Well we have decided to stay put and we are in Jupiter just north of West Palm Beach. I've been through a few storms before but none as big as this one that's for sure. Each one that went through this area was also huge to start with but once it hit it had already downgraded to a 2 or a 3 ( from what I remember anyway).

We do have hurricane impact windows on our home and we have only been in this home for two years so we have never tested them, so to speak, so hopefully they work!

My husband was lucky to fill eight gas, canisters for our generator and we have enough food and water. The problem of course is electricity afterwards and how long the power is off!

Hopefully some Irish Luck will keep us covered for the duration!

To the Luck of the Irish then Irelandliz! Let's hope it gets downgraded a bit before hitting the keys and areas north of there. I see it's still at 185 mph, with Jose looming in the distance. I just read an article on Richard Branson. Apparently, he stayed with staff on Necker Island, BVI, in the wine cellar of his incredibly well built home and now the home is in smithereens but the people are all ok. Of course, Richard has the funds to rebuild easily, unlike most. Your town is just lovely and I hope it remains so; crossing all digits, and stay safe! Good to hear you have all the supplies you'll need!

as you've heard, a lot of those islands in irma's path have been devastated. i'm on a private st. martin f.b. site where the administrator is helping to get communication through, etc. since there are still u.s. and canadian citizens there on vacation and also own property. anyways she found out that government buildings have been ransacked, weapons stolen and gangs going door to door. the looters have robbed tourists, breaking into rooms. apparently troops are there to restore order and i suppose to help clean up. i heard that barbuda was 95% destroyed. this is so sad, on top of the tragedy at hand, there are people going around taking advantage. i hope citizens of florida will be safe, hopefully evacuated. and then i hear of an earthquake in mexico. prayers go out to anyone suffering after these catastrophic events.:prayer:

I read something similar about St. Martin today @liam2015. Incredibly sad to think this sort of thing is going on immediately after such a huge, natural disaster, sigh. I wish the best for islanders and the stranded tourists. I'm hoping all stranded there can get back home, wherever that might be.
