THR Icing

@Mojo333 Thank you so much! Actually, the last two days have been promising. I was able to walk a longer distance without the crutches yesterday and the neurological symptoms aren’t too bad. Still there, but less. I was seeing the Myotherapist on Wednesday and she is great! Working on releasing tension in my muscles has surely been contributing to my improvement in walking. Wishing you a happy weekend too! :SUNsmile:

Happy Three Month Anniversary, Melina!
I hope you had a nice weekend. It sounds as though you’re making progress and it will get better and better:yes!:
Wishing you a happy peaceful week! :wave:

Hi! Long time since I have been here. It is now 9 months post-op but I am still struggling with neuropathic sensations/pain and swelling. How long do you recommend using ice? I am a little bit anxious this will never go away, but my surgeon keeps telling me I’ll be fine. I was very unlucky, tripped and fell on my new hip with a fracture in my lesser trochanter as a result 4 months ago. The implant was unaffected luckily but I have had exacerbations when it comes to the neuropathic symptoms afterwards. Any recommendations/tips?

@Melina
You'll notice that I have merged your newest thread with your original recovery thread. For several reasons, we prefer that you only have one recovery thread:
  • That way, we have all your information in one place. This makes it easier to go back and review your history before providing advice.
  • If you keep starting new threads, you miss the posts and advice others have left for you in the old threads, and some information may be unnecessarily repeated
  • Having only one thread will act as a diary of your progress that you can look back on.
So please post any updates, questions or concerns about your recovery here. If you prefer a different thread title, just post what you want and we'll get it changed for you.
If you need an urgent response to a question, just tag a member of staff.

Many members bookmark their thread in their computer browser, so they can find it when they log on.

Sorry you are still struggling with your THR and subsequent fracture. Your and your hip have been through a lot.
Please post your hip fracture surgery date, a moderator will add it to your signature for you. Having the exact date will help us properly advise you. Thanks!

You are still less than half way through this yearlong+ recovery and your hip is still healing from your THR and hip fracture. Resting, Ice, and Elevation will help promote the healing of your hip.
You can ice any time your feel you need it. You may find with healing and you increase your activity that you will continue to benefit from ice from time to time.

I have had exacerbations when it comes to the neuropathic symptoms afterwards.
Are you on medication for your neuropathic symptoms such as Neurontin for your symptoms?

Thank you and I am sorry I started a new thread. I am not too familiar with how to post and use this forum. I didn’t need surgery only conservative treatment and I don’t take any kind of medication for the neuropathic symptoms. Too many side effects. But I will definitely start doing the ice packs. I had come a long way and then the fall was a huge setback, almost like I am back to start again. The fracture has healed nicely on x-rays and I guess I just have to be patient and don’t panic. Easier said than done :console2:

The day you fractured your femur is your new start date, making the 4 month date the start of your recovery.

Patience is one of the most difficult parts of recovery. While your fracture is healed the soft tissues are still healing and take up to year to full healing.
Where are you in THR recovery??

Please post the date of your fracture so we can add it to your signature, having the exact date will help us better advise you. Thanks!!

I had an avulsion fracture of the right lesser Trochanter the 17.th of May 2020. The same side as my THR.

Thank you so much! It helps being reminded of the recovery time, so easy to fall into despair when things are difficult and impatience sets in. You are really making things easier to understand and soothing my mind :) :-) (:

Thank you for your fracture date, I have added it to your signature.

Glad to hear you are feeling better about your recovery. Some of us are on the slow train, but we get there.

I’m sorry to read the the news of your fracture, Melina. Thankfully it seems you’re on the mend and on your way...again. Wishing you only blue skies and smooth sailing from here on out.
A beautiful Autumn to you!
@Melina

Thank you so much Layla. It really feels like I am back to square one, but I am hanging in there and trying not to go into despair. This was a huge set back but I was very lucky the implant was stable and in place. Wishing you a nice weekend! :loveshwr:
