THR I have had problems with my hip replacement since 2010<

Hello all.
I had my hip replaced May, 2010. I can't say it has ever been 100%. I had pain for a year after surgery and didn't get relief until I received a Methylprednisolone injection June 2011. For the last 5 months I have had pain in my upper front thigh. I have a limp when I walk. Today I tried to carry something up my steps and I had a sharp pain in my groin that went down my leg. It is still hurting. Has anyone had similar issues with their replacement.

DL3F and FL5F. I have had the FL5F pain for about 5 months the DL3F pain started when I tried to carry something up the steps yesterday. Shooting pain down my leg. That is the same pain that I had before the replacement. I also have synovial chondromatosis. This condition contributed to the replacement.
Thanks for the quick response.

I had my left hip replaced 6/2010. I have had issues with it since the replacement. For the last year I have pain in my front thigh when I lift something. I went to a specialist and was told that the replacement didn't mesh with my bone. He called it end of stem pain. My options were live with it or have surgery. My more pressing issue is that I am now getting a very sharp stabbing pain in the side of my hip and down my left leg that stops me dead in my tracks. On a pain scale of 1-10 the pain is a 12! I live by myself and I am concerned about recovery from another surgery. Thank you in advance for any comments or suggestions.

You'll notice that I have merged your newest thread with your original recovery threads. Your previous threads relate to the challenges you are facing.
For several reasons, we prefer that you only have one recovery thread:
  • That way, we have all your information in one place. This makes it easier to go back and review your history before providing advice.
  • If you keep starting new threads, you miss the posts and advice others have left for you in the old threads, and some information may be unnecessarily repeated
  • Having only one thread will act as a diary of your progress that you can look back on.
So please post any updates, questions or concerns about your recovery here. If you prefer a different thread title, just post what you want and we'll get it changed for you.

Hi @RichS ! I'm sorry you're still having problems with your hip after all this time. I'll tag @Josephine to respond to your questions. Best wishes for 2018. I hope this will be your year to get that hip to settle down.

leading you to resolution.
To brighter days....

They used a DePuy Trilock component

Okay, got that.
My options were live with it or have surgery.
Not if you have end of stem pain!
My more pressing issue is that I am now getting a very sharp stabbing pain in the side of my hip and down my left leg that stops me dead in my tracks.
Okay - can you tell me the site of your pains using this chart, please?

Not sure how to respond to the chart
Rich, if you need any help using the forum, you can find many helpful articles in here How To Use This Forum
Specially this one Starting a new thread and posting

As you can see, I copied your references from your PM (personal message) into here but another time, please don't PM me instead of posting in here. Thank you

Yes they are the two spots.

Thank you - just wanted to be sure.
Well the blue one is most likely to be Trochanteric bursitis
And the red one could either be because you're doing too much exercising like high marching or leg lifts, that soret of thing. But the other is that you may have a loose stem and it's causing pain in the bone.

I returned to my surgeon. He took xrays and said everything looked good. He said that it may be a back issue. I saw a spinal doctor today and he compared my pre replacement x-rays with my post replacement x-rays. He said I have Heterotopic Ossification. Heterotopic ossification (HO) is the process by which bone tissue forms outside of the skeleton. He suggested therapy then return in a month for a status. Has anyone experienced this condition?

Hi @RichS
I'm so sorry you're dealing with this.
From the tiny bit I read it can be a result of surgery or trauma to the hips.
I hope it's not extremely painful and the therapy you engage in brings you some relief.
Possibly someone will stop by who's experienced this and can offer some insight.
Wishing you the best as you move forward! Please stay in touch....

I had a total hip replacement in June 2010. I’ve had problems with my hip ever since the operation. I’ve gone back to see the surgeon that performed the replacement five times and he has said everything has mended well.

I have been getting sharp stabbing pain‘s in the front of my thigh and in my hip I had xrays and was told that I have heterotopic ossification. I was sent for an ultrasound and that’s when they found the tendon tear. The doctor recommended that I get cortisone shots every three months. He said surgery would not help because the repair will not stay secure.

Has anyone else run into this situation and do you have any recommendations.

Hi and Welcome to BoneSmart. Thank you for joining us.
I'm sorry for your pain and longsuffering. While I can't answer your questions I will leave you a couple articles

I'm also tagging the forum Nurse Director @Josephine to see if she has any advice or recommendations for you.
She's in the U.K. and there is a time difference so you will need to check back.
I hope you find answers and an end to the pain soon.
@RichS

Rich, I've merged your old thread with this one, though it's not really that old! It just helps us (me) to have all the information in one place! First thing I noticed was that you mentioned HO back in March this year. So has anything changed?
