Does she still have stitches? Those should have been removed in early August.

Surely there are no stitches still there. But the healing scar area can itch and feel tight. Assuming that the wound has healed over completely and is not draining, it's okay for her to use some lotion or Vitamin E oil on it. That should make things feel better.

@alexthecat no, stitches were removed within 10 days, it's just the scar

@Jamie thanks hun, how do I figure out if the wound has completely healed or not? hope the pricking sensation goes away with vitamin e oil..

Just ask your mother if the incision has healed. I'm sure it is after all this time. Buy her some lotion and tell her to enjoy softer skin.

@nevillek YOU don't need to do anything. Your mother is healed and anything she has problems with she can manage on her own. I suggest that by now - after 10 weeks - you no longer need to fuss over her like this. You've been a good and caring son during the first few weeks but now is the time to let go. Unless, of course, she specifically asks.

I bought her the Vitamin E oil and she's much better now @Josephine @Jamie .. however, sometimes when she wakes up in the morning after sleeping on her good side, she gets a lot of pain in the op area for a while and then it disappears as soon as she gets out of bed.. what could this be? She thinks it happens when the pillow in between slides off or something and she remains like that for a long time..

She finished 12 weeks last Monday, so I wanted to know if she can sleep on her operated side too now? Also, does she still have to use a pillow in between when sleeping on the sides?

Any restrictions she should continue to follow?

Tell her to do whatever feels most comfortable. There should be no restrictions now and she will not harm her new hip. It could be that the pain is from trying to sleep with the pillow and on only one side. Most of us need to move around a bit when we sleep or we get stiff in the morning. Your mother is doing just fine.

It's probably because she's been sleeping well and not moving during the night. Perhaps she would benefit from a few stretches before she tried to get going.
