How does a new hip feel?

My new hip feels "perfectly natural". My natural (left) hip felt like Hell before the surgery as it was full of arthritis damage. :) Being pain free is a beautiful thing!

totally good point about the new leg feeling longer...mine did too.

altho in my case it was 3mm longer to replace the cartilage that dissolved - but sometimes it felt a whole lot longer than that!!!

Like Dr Toonz, I am really new to this, just had surgery day before yesterday. But I will say that when I first stood up on it I was amazed that the old pain I was used to feeling was gone, Yes there is incision soreness but that is managable. But I can't tell at this point that the new hip feels any different from my real one.

My OS warned me that I would feel like my surgical leg was longer than the other and that I should ignore therapists who advised shoe lifts.
Absolutely true. Most every new hippies feels like one leg is longer than the other. This is because your pelvis has tilted slighted pre-op as you tried to stay off your sore hip. Post op the pelvis balances again - but it can take some time. We advise our members to wait 3-4 months before exploring getting any lift. Then, if you still feel a difference it's important to get measured correctly. Here's an article from our Library: Leg length differential - LLD.

I am 6 weeks post op and honestly can't tell the difference between my own hip and my bionic one,LOL. The muscles let me know if I do too much but as far as feeling like there is something different there, I have not felt that at all, not even right after surgery. The best thing you experience is, no more bone on bone pain and there is no more catching feeling or anything like that. Just smooth gliding movement, feels wonderful!!

Funny I am 6 weeks post-op today and still have some stiffness but boy does it feel almost normal. One thing I have though is a feeling that the operated leg is shorter than the other. I am going to mention it to my OS next week when I have pre-op for the other hip. I can't wait to get the other done so I can get on with a pain-free life.
