Hi @Woodstockhip nice to meet another Hudson Valley Peep! The beautiful fall season is almost upon us.
Woodstock is an awesome little artsy town. Not far north of me, I am in north Rockland County on the Orange County border!
The 3 of us definitely need to meet up for
a walk!! What do you think @HollyNY ?

Fall is just beautiful. One of my favorites used to be The Walkway over the Hudson.
The Walkway was tough with 2 good hips!

Also beautiful is the Culinary Institute of America if you go all the way down to the student union building at the water.

I am not far from 84/Rt 9.

Hi @avanoz,
There are a bunch of us close to your age.

Is it both hips for you or just one?

'I can't live like this'. I have uttered those exact words!

Hi @HollyNY - It is only the one hip (the right) for now, although one doc says both have dysplasia.

@HollyNY
I‘ve moved your post above out of the Monthly team thread as we reserve that thread for surgery date information, and so members can see who else has surgery the same month. We prefer all other comments and discussion to take place in a pre op or recovery thread, such as this one. Enjoy interacting with others who are on the same journey, here in this thread.

@avanoz I moved your reply to Holly here to her thread, for the reason above.

Hi @avanoz,
I have hip dysplasia with the right hip only.

Bone on bone and the pain has gotten worse (quickly)!

My legs are not diffent lengths but the dysplasia makes it look like they are.

At first I thought the early osteoarthritis was from taking too many aerobics classes over the years. I did 3x/week for 1hr for 15 years.

But the surgeon said even if I had only put weight on my left foot, I would still be where I am today.

Sounds like frequent trips to the bathroom to pee are very common.

Also constipation from pain meds.

What should I have on hand just in case?

Frequent trips to the bathroom are due to the fact that they put you on an IV drip pre-op and keep you hydrated throughout the procedure. The trick is to visit before you need to visit.

Some medication is constipating. And the system just slows down post op. Have some stool softeners on hand just in case. If you don't need the heavy duty pain killers you may not have a problem. Here's an article from our Library: Constipation and stool softeners.

Had my pre-op visit w the doc.

I asked about the location of the incision (vertical), the outlook for my left hip (normal), if I will need a cane long term (no). There are no movement restrictions w anterior approach.

He said the leg is likely to bruise and swell. I will have my ice packs and leg rest ready to ice+elevate.

And that simple walking is all the new hip will need!

The main thing is the pain will be gone forever.

Sounds like you're ready to roll. Less than two weeks to go.
I hope you're not struggling with too much pain. I wish you lots of comfort while you're waiting.
Before you know it you'll be back home and feeling great by the holidays.:banana-santa:
@HollyNY

@Layla the pain is ridiculous. But it reminds me that there is no alternative.

I will be celebrating w a new hip. Pain free!

I was very glad to see his instructions were minimalist like the approach on the boards.

Aww, I'm sorry to hear that. I was pretty miserable by the end of the day in the weeks leading up to my THR. Many nights I went to bed early to watch tv and get off my feet. I found a heating pad helpful towards the end. While it didn't eliminate the pain, it was a comfort and a bit of a distraction. Try it if you haven't already. I hope you find many moments of relief as you're waiting.

@HollyNY
Glad to see you don't have much longer...
the pain is ridiculous. But it reminds me that there is no alternative.
I felt the same way... two horrid hips at age 53 and the pain became increasingly worse and I was So Sleep Deprived.
So happy that my BTHR got me back to a happy, active, hip pain-free life.:dancy:

@Layla and @Mojo333 I do the same thing!. By 6pm I am upstairs with my feet up.

On the bed but not asleep.

I can not get a full night's sleep anymore.

That will soon be over!

Is there any good thank you gifts for this surgical team?

My primary care, ob gyn and mammo/ultrasound docs are all women and they have been great caring doctors over 20+ yrs who want their patients to feel better.

But this is my first foray into orthopedics and I am just blown away by how detailed and fast this team is! Everyone....PAs, nurses, schedulers.

They read my CT scan within 2 hrs, his nurse called me with the results, all of my post surgery meds are already at my pharmacy, my 3 day Covid test is waiting for me.

They have clearly put a lot of thought into making this as easy as possible for their patients.

My vote is homemade chocolate chip cookies....
Mukes the world so much better!:) :-) (:

The joke around the hospital for workers often is "we should have signs on us 'will work for food'. Lol. Quick grab treats are always appreciated.
